Journal ArticleDOI
First detection of canine parvovirus type 2c in pups with haemorrhagic enteritis in Spain.
Nicola Decaro,Vito Martella,Costantina Desario,A. L. Bellacicco,Michele Camero,Laura Manna,D. D'Aloja,Canio Buonavoglia +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that this new antigenic variant of CPV‐2 could spread throughout Europe and that there is a subsequent need to update current CPV vaccines.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of different tissue sampling for PCR-based diagnosis and follow-up of canine visceral leishmaniosis
Laura Manna,Fabrizio Vitale,Stefano Reale,Santo Caracappa,Luigi Michele Pavone,Rossella Della Morte,Giuseppe Cringoli,Norma Staiano,Angelo Elio Gravino +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that, independently from the presence or not of cutaneous lesions, skin biopsy represents a good substratum for PCR-based diagnosis and follow-up of canine visceral leishmaniosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Leishmania DNA load and cytokine expression levels in asymptomatic naturally infected dogs.
Laura Manna,Stefano Reale,Elisabetta Viola,Fabrizio Vitale,Valentina Foglia Manzillo,Pavone Luigi Michele,Santo Caracappa,Angelo Elio Gravino +7 more
TL;DR: The overall results obtained demonstrate that the simultaneous evaluation of parasites and cytokine levels represents a reliable tool for predicting disease development, and thus for choosing the best treatment for the asymptomatic form of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical and Laboratory Findings in Equine Piroplasmosis
Rosanna Zobba,M. Ardu,Serena Niccolini,Bernardo Chessa,Laura Manna,Raffaella Cocco,Maria Luisa Pinna Parpaglia +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the two protozoans are the most important causative agents of equine tick-borne disease in this geographic area and different clinical features are associated with the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Real-time PCR assay in Leishmania-infected dogs treated with meglumine antimoniate and allopurinol.
Laura Manna,Stefano Reale,Fabrizio Vitale,Esther Picillo,Luigi Michele Pavone,Angelo Elio Gravino +5 more
TL;DR: The results show that the combined therapy with meglumine antimoniate and allopurinol promoted a clinical improvement which was accompanied by a reduction in the parasitic load in the blood, skin and lymph nodes but, even after long period of allopURinol administration alone, Leishmania may persist in dog tissues.
