COVID-19 deaths detected in a systematic post-mortem surveillance study in Africa
Lawrence Mwananyanda,Christopher J. Gill,William B. MacLeod,Geoffrey Kwenda,Rachel Pieciak,Zachariah Mupila,Francis Mupeta,Leah S Forman,Luunga Ziko,Lauren Etter,Donald M. Thea +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted a systematic post-mortem surveillance study to directly measure the fatal impact of COVID-19 in an urban African population, where they obtained nasopharyngeal swabs for testing via reverse-transcriptase quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) against the SARS-2 Coronavirus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ear biometrics for patient identification in global health: a field study to test the effectiveness of an image stabilization device in improving identification accuracy
TL;DR: By standardizing lighting, angle and spatial location of the ear, the Donut achieved near perfect identification rates on a cohort of 194 participants, proving the feasibility and effectiveness of using the ear as a biometric identifier.
Journal ArticleDOI
