Journal ArticleDOI

Coronary artery calcium score combined with Framingham score for risk prediction in asymptomatic individuals

TL;DR: Data support the hypothesis that high CACS can modify predicted risk obtained from FRS alone, especially among patients in the intermediate-risk category in whom clinical decision making is most uncertain.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Role of Carotid Arterial Intima-Media Thickness in Predicting Clinical Coronary Events

TL;DR: This long-term follow-up of the Cholesterol Lowering Atherosclerosis Study cohort indicated that progression of coronary artery disease was predictive of coronary events, and the objective was to determine whether carotid arterial intima-media thickness predicts coronary events.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ambient air pollution and atherosclerosis in Los Angeles.

TL;DR: These results represent the first epidemiologic evidence of an association between atherosclerosis and ambient air pollution and given the leading role of cardiovascular disease as a cause of death and the large populations exposed to ambient PM2.5, these findings may be important and need further confirmation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Serial Coronary Angiographic Evidence That Antioxidant Vitamin Intake Reduces Progression of Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis

TL;DR: Results indicate an association between supplementary vitamin E intake and angiographically demonstrated reduction in coronary artery lesion progression and Verification from carefully designed, randomized, serial angiographic trials is needed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduction in Carotid Arterial Wall Thickness Using Lovastatin and Dietary Therapy: A Randomized, Controlled Clinical Trial

TL;DR: Evidence of benefit from lovastatin plus dietary therapy on early, preintrusive atherosclerosis is reported through the measurement of change in the carotid arterial intima-media thickness in 188 patients evaluated every 6 months for as long as 4 years.
