Journal ArticleDOI

Brazilian Propolis: Correlation between Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity

TL;DR: The present study reinforces the relevance of PCUM and derivatives, especially prenylated ones and also of caffeolyquinic acids, on the biological activity of Brazilian propolis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical composition and microbicidal activity of extracts from Brazilian and Bulgarian propolis

TL;DR: The chemical composition of ethanol extracts from a Brazilian and a Bulgarian propolis and their activity against the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, several fungi and bacteria species were determined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clonal structure and virulence factors in strains of Escherichia coli of the classic serogroup O55.

TL;DR: The results suggest that ET 5 marks a special pathogenic clone with a propensity to acquire virulence factors which may facilitate the emergence of new pathogenic strains.
Journal ArticleDOI

Escherichia coli serogroup O111 includes several clones of diarrheagenic strains with different virulence properties.

TL;DR: The results indicate that genetic divergence of bacteria with the O111 antigen, as measured by allelic variation in enzyme loci, is accompanied by divergence in virulence properties of clones so that identification and classification of pathogenic E. coli strains cannot be based solely on serotyping or a single virulence factor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli categories among the traditional enteropathogenic E. coli O serogroups--a review.

TL;DR: The aim of this article is to review the composition of each O serogroup and the major serotypes, clones, and additional virulence characteristics of each of these diarrheagenic categories.
