Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of volume fraction of phases and precipitates on the mechanical behavior of UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the microstructure on the mechanical behavior of a grade UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel was studied and the results demonstrate the sensitivity of the steel to the annealing temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fatigue crack growth analysis of pre-strained 7475–T7351 aluminum alloy.

TL;DR: In this paper, the results showed that both fracture toughness and FCG resistance decreased with an increase in the tensile pre-strain level, and the modified Forman model provided the best fit to the FCG rate data as compared with the other two models.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructure and mechanical properties of a flash butt welded pearlitic rail

TL;DR: In this article, the microstructural evolution of the heat affected zone is clarified with the aid of dilatometry, and a dilatometric based methodology is proposed to define a process window and control the post-weld cooling rate at the rail head in order to improve the weld performance due to a better hardness profile, without increasing costs or welding time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of chemical composition and microstructure on the fatigue crack growth resistance of pearlitic steels for railroad application.

TL;DR: In this paper, the microstructure and mechanical behavior of two pearlitic steels used in Brazilian railroads, a C-Mn-Si steel and a V-microalloyed steel, were characterized by light optical, scanning electron and atomic force microscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Statistical modeling of fatigue crack growth rate in Inconel alloy 600

TL;DR: In this paper, Collipriest and Priddle FCGR models were proposed to model the data and these models were modified to obtain a better fit to the data, especially in the near-threshold region.
