Assessment of female sex as a risk factor in atrial fibrillation in Sweden: nationwide retrospective cohort study
TL;DR: Women with atrial fibrillation have a moderately increased risk of stroke compared with men, and thus, female sex should be considered when making decisions about anticoagulation treatment, but women younger than 65 years and without other risk factors have a low risk for stroke, and do not need antICOagulant treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comprehensive population-based characterization of heart failure with mid-range ejection fraction.
Angela S. Koh,Wan Ting Tay,Tiew-Hwa Katherine Teng,Ola Vedin,Lina Benson,Ulf Dahlström,Gianluigi Savarese,Carolyn S.P. Lam,Carolyn S.P. Lam,Lars Lund +9 more
TL;DR: Clinical features and outcomes in the novel phenotype heart failure with mid‐range ejection fraction with reduced EF and preserved EF were compared with heart failure With reduced EF (HFrEF, EF <40%) and preservedEF (HFp EF, EF ≥50%).
Journal ArticleDOI
Significance of Ischemic Heart Disease in Patients With Heart Failure and Preserved, Midrange, and Reduced Ejection Fraction: A Nationwide Cohort Study.
Ola Vedin,Carolyn S.P. Lam,Angela S. Koh,Lina Benson,Tiew-Hwa Katherine Teng,Wan Ting Tay,Oscar Ö. Braun,Gianluigi Savarese,Gianluigi Savarese,Ulf Dahlström,Lars H. Lund,Lars H. Lund +11 more
TL;DR: HFmrEF resembled HFrEF rather than HFpEF with regard to both a higher prevalence of IHD and a greater risk of new IHD events, and established IHD was an important prognostic factor across all HF types.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between use of renin-angiotensin system antagonists and mortality in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction.
TL;DR: Among patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction, the use of RAS antagonists was associated with lower all-cause mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Balancing stroke and bleeding risks in patients with atrial fibrillation and renal failure: the Swedish Atrial Fibrillation Cohort study
TL;DR: Patients with both atrial fibrillation and renal failure will probably benefit most from having the same treatment as is recommended for other patients with AF, without setting a higher or lower threshold for treatment.
