The course of asthma during pregnancy, post partum, and with successive pregnancies: A prospective analysis
Michael Schatz,Kathy Harden,Alan B. Forsythe,Linda Chilingar,Clement P. Hoffman,William Sperling,Robert S. Zeiger +6 more
TL;DR: Based on diary-card analysis, asthma was significantly less frequent and less severe during the last 4 weeks of pregnancy than during any other gestational interval and in women whose asthma improved during pregnancy, diary- card analysis revealed a gradual improvement with progressive pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
The safety of asthma and allergy medications during pregnancy
TL;DR: Use of most common asthma and allergy medications during pregnancy was not associated with increased perinatal risks, and risk-benefit considerations still favor the use of oral corticosteroids when indicated for the treatment of asthma during pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perinatal Outcomes in the Pregnancies of Asthmatic Women: A Prospective Controlled Analysis
Michael Schatz,Robert S. Zeiger,Clement P. Hoffman,Kathleen Harden,Alan B. Forsythe,Linda Chilingar,Brian Saunders,Richard P. Porreco,William Sperling,Marcia Kagnoff +9 more
TL;DR: The overall perinatal prognosis for women with actively managed asthma during pregnancy is comparable to that for the nonasthmatic population, and trends were observed toward relationships between more severe asthma requiring emergency therapy or corticosteroids and increased incidences of preeclampsia and low-birth-weight infants.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Data support the use of inhaled β-agonist bronchodilators as part of the management of asthma during pregnancy, with little evidence of human gestational safety for alternative asthma medications.
Journal ArticleDOI
The safety of asthma and allergy medications during pregnancy
TL;DR: In this paper, the safety of asthma medications, antihistamines, and decongestants was assessed in a prospectively monitored cohort of 824 pregnant women with and 678 pregnant women without asthma.
