Journal ArticleDOI

Severity of illness, outcomes, and resource use in elderly cancer patients with deep venous thrombosis.

TL;DR: The similarities in outcomes and resource use between elderly and younger patients suggest that elderly patients with cancer are not at greater risk of serious clinical outcomes or a pro longed clinical course.
Journal ArticleDOI

Greater preferences for death in hospital and mechanical ventilation at the end of life among non-whites recently diagnosed with cancer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated preferred potential place of death and preferences regarding use of mechanical ventilation in a cohort of Texas cancer patients and found that non-white cancer patients were more likely to express preferences coinciding with aggressive EOL care including dying at the hospital and utilizing mechanical ventilation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stratification in clinical trials of febrile neutropenia

TL;DR: Patients with febrile neutropenia are characterized by well described prognostic factors leading to heterogeneity of risk of serious clinical outcomes, which complicate the design and interpretation of clinical trials of antimicrobial therapy in this population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Association of Bone Mineral Density Testing With Risk of Major Osteoporotic Fractures Among Older Men Receiving Androgen Deprivation Therapy to Treat Localized or Regional Prostate Cancer

TL;DR: Bone mineral density testing was significantly associated with a decreased risk of developing major osteoporotic fractures after adjustment for covariates, and support the clinical importance of performing DXA screening for major fracture prevention among older men with prostate cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aztreonam in the prevention and treatment of infection in neutropenic cancer patients.

TL;DR: It was concluded that aztreonam appears to be a useful agent for the treatment of febrile neutropenic patients, but further study is recommended.
