Comprehensive utilization and environmental risks of coal gangue: A review

Mining and mineral-processing wastes are one of the world’s largest chronic waste concerns. Their reuse should be included in future sustainable development plans, but the potential impacts on a number of environmental processes are highly variable and must be thoroughly assessed. The chemical composition and geotechnical properties of the source rock determine which uses are most appropriate and whether reuse is economically feasible. If properly evaluated, mining waste can be reused to reextract minerals, provide additional fuel for power plants, supply construction materials, and repair surface and subsurface land structures altered by mining activities themselves.

Sustainable urbanization in China: A comprehensive literature review

With the fast development of Chinese economy in recent years, China has become the largest coal production and consumption country in the world. Correspondingly, it has produced large quantities of mining waste including coal gangue, coal sludge, fly-ash, coal mine drainage and coal-bed methane (CBM) that are hazardous to the soil, air, and water. Based on the theory and practice of sustainable development and recycling economy, the paper will discuss and analyze the mining waste management in Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group, Shanxi Province, where they have found the paths to realize the mining waste reusing and recycling in colliery. They had established many green industrial chains in the mining waste treatment: the gangue piles turned into man-made eco-park, gangue used for power generation, fly-ash used in the building material, the coal mining water reused and recycled in closed pipelines, the CBM extracted for home-burning and electricity generation, etc. The coal mining waste has been converted into wealth and played more and more important roles in many fields. The practice indicated that these patterns can be applied in other coal mines.

Recycling utilization patterns of coal mining waste in China

During the past decades, many facts had proved that the urban agglomerations had become an important force in regional development. Theoretical research has indicated that close economic links of cities among urban agglomeration is the essential characteristics of urban agglomeration. The quantitative analysis of economy linkage is the basis to define the range of urban agglomeration. Based on urban connection theory in regional economics, we construct the gravity model and urban flow model. The two models can reflect the spatial economic interaction of cities from different aspects respectively. In China urban agglomerations, the central urban agglomeration in Liaoning province (CUAL) is a typical metropolis in Northeast of China where many resource cities located. Therefore, it is supposed to study the spatial economy structure and layer structure as the city system of CUAL are becoming more powerful in the revitalization of the old industrial base of the Northeast. In order to test the validity of model, we take the CUAL as a case to do empirical analysis. The research results indicate that its spatial economic links presents a fanlike characteristic taking Shenyang as its heart, which is consistent with the natural geographical feature. In the layer structure, Shenyang surrounding by three mining cities Anpsilashan, Fushun and Benxi city, is the economy radiation center and Liaoyang, Tieling, and Yingkou are peripheral cities. It is a dual-nuclei structure: Shenyan is the main core, while Anpsilashan is the sub-core in economy interaction.

Spatial economic interaction of urban agglomeration: Gravity and intercity flow modeling & empirical study

The carbon emissionshas attracts great concerns in engineering technology researches. The decomposition analysis technology has been popular in the study on influencing factors of industrial carbon emissions(ICE). The change of industries’s CO 2 emissions from the three main industries in China over the period 1980-2011 based on the logarithmic mean divisia index (LMDI) method has been carried out. The research indicated that economic activity effect was the main influence factor for ICE increase in China over the entire period; the decline in energy intensity and the adjustment of energy and change in the CO 2 emission coefficient were major determinants for reduction of ICE. Meanwhile, we found that China had made a significant contribution to reducing global CO 2 emissions by decreasing its energy intensity. Based on the fore study, the mechanism of CO 2 emission changes has been analyzed and the pressure-driven environment protection model has been put forward. http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i5.2484

The Extended Shif-share Analysis Model and the Application in the Industrial Structure Analysis of the Central Urban Agglomeration in Liaoning Province

In this paper,the location quotient and its extension are summarized,and then a revised location quotient is put forward.In the empirical study,the central urban agglomeration in Liaoning province(CUAL) is chosen as a case to study its urban functional structure and its transformation from 1996 to 2004.The research results indicate that urban function of the CUAL has a clear characteristic of "heavy" industries and manufacturing industry;the function of core city,Shenyang,manufacturing and servicing,are becoming clearer than before;the modern serving industries of core city representing by the finance,scientific research,high education and so on,has a higher level than other city.
