In order to realize the on-the-fly ontology construction for the Semantic Web, this paper proposes DODDLE-R, a support environment for user-centered ontology development. It consists of two main parts: pre-processing part and quality improvement part. Pre-processing part generates a prototype ontology semi-automatically, and quality improvement part supports the refinement of it interactively. As we believe that careful construction of ontologies from preliminary phase is more efficient than attempting generate ontologies full-automatically (it may cause too many modification by hand), quality improvement part plays significant role in DODDLE-R. The development of the Semantic Web, with machine-readable content, has the potential to revolutionize the World Wide Web and its uses. A semantic Web primer

An ontology is a formal description of concepts and relationships that can exist for a community of human and/or machine agents. The notion of ontologies is crucial for the purpose of enabling knowledge sharing and reuse. With rising importance of knowledge interchange, many industrial and academic applications have adopted ontologies as their conceptual backbone. However, industrial and academic environments are very dynamic, thus inducing changes to application requirements. To fulfill these changes, often the underlying ontology must be evolved as well. As ontologies grow in size, the complexity of change management increases, thus requiring a well-structured ontology evolution process. In this paper we identify a possible six-phase evolution process and focus on providing the user with capabilities to control and customize it. We introduce the concept of an evolution strategy encapsulating policy for evolution with respect to user?s requirements.

The term „Semantic Web” encompasses efforts to build a new WWW architecture that supports content with formal semantics, which enables better possibilities for searching and navigating through the cyberspace. As such, the Semantic Web represents a promising technology for realizing eLearning requirements. This paper presents an approach for implementing the eLearning scenario using Semantic Web technologies. It is primarily based on ontology-based descriptions of content, context and structure of the learning materials and benefits the providing of and accessing to the learning materials.

The Semantic Web will bring structure to the content of Web pages, being an extension of the current Web, in which information is given a well-defined meaning. Especially within e-commerce applications, Semantic Web technologies in the form of ontologies and metadata are becoming increasingly prevalent and important. This paper introduce KAON - the Karlsruhe Ontology and Semantic WebTool Suite. KAON is developed jointly within several EU-funded projects and specifically designed to provide the ontology and metadata infrastructure needed for building, using and accessing semantics-driven applications on the Web and on your desktop.
