Journal ArticleDOI

Distinct phenotypes require distinct respiratory management strategies in severe COVID-19.

TL;DR: It is identified that chest CT patterns in COVID-19 may be divided into three main phenotypes: 1) multiple, focal, possibly overperfused ground-glass opacities; 2) inhomogeneously distributed atelectasis; and 3) a patchy, ARDS-like pattern.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clinical characteristics, management and in-hospital mortality of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 in Genoa, Italy.

Antonio Vena, +157 more
TL;DR: COVID-19 mainly affected elderly patients with predisposing conditions and caused severe illness, frequently requiring non-invasive respiratory support or ICU admission and remains associated with a substantial risk of all-cause in-hospital mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative Effects of Volutrauma and Atelectrauma on Lung Inflammation in Experimental Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

TL;DR: In this model of acute respiratory distress syndrome, volutrauma promoted higher lung inflammation than atelectrauma at comparable low tidal volume and lower driving pressure, suggesting that static stress and strain are major determinants of ventilator-induced lung injury.
