TL;DR: GORD is common in Italy, but the prevalence of Barrett’s oesophagus in the community is lower than has been reported in selected populations, and both frequent and infrequent reflux symptoms are associated with an increased risk of Oesophagitis.

Laparoscopic antireflux surgery vs esomeprazole treatment for chronic GERD: the LOTUS randomized clinical trial.

TL;DR: This multicenter clinical trial demonstrated that with contemporary antireflux therapy for GERD, either by drug-induced acid suppression with esomeprazole or by LARS, most patients achieve and remain in remission at 5 years.
