Milder Alzheimer's disease pathology in heart failure and atrial fibrillation
Luciano A. Sposato,Estefania Ruiz Vargas,Patricia M. Riccio,Jon B. Toledo,Jon B. Toledo,John Q. Trojanowski,Walter A. Kukull,Lauren E. Cipriano,Antonia Nucera,Shawn N. Whitehead,Shawn N. Whitehead,Vladimir Hachinski +11 more
TL;DR: Heart failure and atrial fibrillation have been associated with a higher risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and whether HF and AF are related to AD by enhancing AD neuropathological changes is unknown.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerebral Embolic Protection in TAVI: Friend or Foe.
Michael Teitelbaum,Rafail A. Kotronias,Luciano A. Sposato,Rodrigo Bagur,Rodrigo Bagur,Rodrigo Bagur +5 more
TL;DR: Cerebrovascular accidents including stroke or transient ischaemic attack are one of the most feared complications after transcatheter aortic valve implantation and cerebral embolic protection devices were developed with the aim of preventing procedural debris reaching the cerebral vasculature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adverse Outcome of Early Recurrent Ischemic Stroke Secondary to Atrial Fibrillation after Repeated Systemic Thrombolysis
Luciano A. Sposato,Valeria Lujan Salutto,Diego E. Beratti,Paula Monti,Patricia M. Riccio,Claudio Mazia +5 more
TL;DR: A case of a 76-year-old woman with known paroxysmal atrial fibrillation who was admitted because of an acute right middle cerebral artery ischemic stroke and who underwent repeated systemic thrombolysis within 110 hours, and who died 25 days after admission is described.
Journal Article
Stroke risk, phenotypes, and death in COVID-19
Sebastian Fridman,Maria Bres Bullrich,Amado Jiménez-Ruiz,Pablo Costantini,Palak Shah,Caroline Just,Daniel Vela-Duarte,Italo Linfante,Athena Sharifi-Razavi,Narges Karimi,Rodrigo Bagur,Derek B. Debicki,Teneille Gofton,David A. Steven,Luciano A. Sposato +14 more
TL;DR: Stroke is relatively frequent among patients with COVID-19 and has devastating consequences across all ages, and the interplay of older age, comorbid conditions, and severity of CO VID-19 respiratory symptoms is associated with an extremely elevated mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atrial fibrillation diagnosed after stroke and dementia risk: cohort study of first-ever ischaemic stroke patients aged 65 or older.
TL;DR: Atrial fibrillation detected after stroke was independently associated with higher risk of dementia relative to no AF and among patients with AFDAS, the use of OACs was associated with lower dementia risk.
