RV6Sn6 (R = Sc, Y, or rare earth) is a new family of kagome metals that have a similar vanadium structural motif as AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, Cs) compounds. Unlike AV3Sb5, ScV6Sn6 is the only compound among the series of RV6Sn6 that displays a charge density wave (CDW) order at ambient pressure, yet it shows no superconductivity (SC) at low temperatures. Here, we perform a high-pressure transport study on the ScV6Sn6 single crystal to track the evolutions of the CDW transition and to explore possible SC. In contrast to AV3Sb5 compounds, the CDW order of ScV6Sn6 can be suppressed completely by a pressure of about 2.4 GPa, but no SC is detected down to 40 mK at 2.35 GPa and 1.5 K up to 11 GPa. Moreover, we observed that the resistivity anomaly around the CDW transition undergoes an obvious change at ~2.04 GPa before it vanishes completely. The present work highlights a distinct relationship between CDW and SC in ScV6Sn6 in comparison with the well-studied AV3Sb5.

Destabilization of the Charge Density Wave and the Absence of Superconductivity in ScV6Sn6 under High Pressures up to 11 GPa

Higher-order topological superconductors (HOTSs) are topological states possessing gapless modes at the corners (hinges) of 2$d$ (3$d$) samples. While these phases of matter have recently attracted immense theoretical interest, experimental candidates remain scarce. This paper demonstrates a mechanism for HOTSs in doped topological insulators, and provides explicit modeling for a particular realization. The mechanism is effective in materials with localized orbitals. It requires a minimum doping beyond which superconductivity ensues, thus offering a useful criterion in the search for material realizations.

Intrinsic first- and higher-order topological superconductivity in a doped topological insulator

Systems containing the ideal kagome lattice can exhibit several distinct and novel exotic states of matter. One example of such systems is a recently discovered $A$V$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$ ($A$ = K, Rb, and Cs) family of compounds. Here, the coexistence of the charge density wave (CDW) and superconductivity is observed. In this paper, we study the dynamic properties of the $A$V$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$ systems in context of origin of the CDW phase. We show and discuss the structural phase transition from $P6/mmm$ to $C2/m$ symmetry that are induced by the presence of phonon soft modes. We conclude that the CDW observed in this family of compounds is a consequence of the atom displacement, from the high symmetry position of the kagome net, in low-temperature phase. Additionally, using the numerical {\it ab initio} methods, we discuss the charge distribution on the $A$V$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$ surface. We show that the observed experimental %$4\times 1$ stripe-like modulation of the surface, can be related to surface reconstruction and manifestation of the three dimensional $2 \times 2 \times 2$ bulk CDW. Finally, the consequence of realization of the $C2/m$ structure on the electronic properties are discussed. We show that the electronic band structure reconstruction and the accompanying modification of density of states correspond well to the experimental data.

Dynamical study of the origin of the charge density wave in 
<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>A</mml:mi><mml:msub><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">V</mml:mi><mml:mn>3</mml:mn></mml:msub><mml:msub><mml:mi>Sb</mml:mi><mml:mn>5</mml:mn></mml:msub></mml:mrow></mml:m

LaIr3Ga2 is a kagome superconductor with a superconducting temperature (Tc) of 5.16 K. Here, we present the physical properties of the LaIr3Ga2 kagome superconductor computed via the DFT method wherein six different exchange-correlation functionals were used. The lattice parameters obtained using different functionals are reasonable, with a slight variation compared to experimental values. The bonding nature was explored. The elastic constants (Cij), moduli (B, G, Y), and Vickers hardness (Hv) were computed to disclose the mechanical behavior. The Hv values were estimated to be 2.56-3.16 GPa using various exchange-correlation functionals, indicating the softness of the kagome material. The Pugh ratio, Poisson's ratio, and Cauchy pressure revealed the ductile nature. In addition, mechanical stability was ensured based on the estimated elastic constants. The anisotropic mechanical behavior was confirmed via different anisotropic indices. The Debye temperature (ΘD), melting temperature (Tm), and minimum thermal conductivity (kmin) were calculated to characterize the thermal properties and predict the potential of LaIr3Ga2 as a thermal barrier coating material. The electronic density of states was investigated in detail. The McMillan equation was used to estimate Tc, and the electron-phonon coupling constant (λ) was calculated to explore the superconducting nature. The important optical constants were also calculated to explore its possible optoelectronic applications. The values of reflectivity in the IR-visible region are about 62% to 80%, indicating that the compound under study is suitable as a coating to reduce solar heating. The obtained parameters were compared with previously reported parameters, where available.

Exploration of the physical properties of the newly synthesized kagome superconductor LaIr3Ga2 using different exchange-correlation functionals.

The electronic correlations (e.g. unconventional superconductivity (SC), chiral charge order and nematic order) and giant anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in topological kagome metals AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, and Cs) have attracted great interest. Electrical control of those correlated electronic states and AHE allows us to resolve their own nature and origin and to discover new quantum phenomena. Here, we show that electrically controlled proton intercalation has significant impacts on striking quantum phenomena in CsV3Sb5 nanodevices mainly through inducing disorders in thinner nanoflakes and carrier density modulation in thicker ones. Specifically, in disordered thin nanoflakes (below 25 nm), we achieve a quantum phase transition from a superconductor to a "failed insulator" with a large saturated sheet resistance for T → 0 K. Meanwhile, the carrier density modulation in thicker nanoflakes shifts the Fermi level across the charge density wave (CDW) gap and gives rise to an extrinsic-intrinsic transition of AHE. With the first-principles calculations, the extrinsic skew scattering of holes in the nearly flat bands with finite Berry curvature by multiple impurities would account for the giant AHE. Our work uncovers a distinct disorder-driven bosonic superconductor-insulator transition (SIT), outlines a global picture of the giant AHE and reveals its correlation with the unconventional CDW in the AV3Sb5 family.

Electrically controlled superconductor-to-failed insulator transition and giant anomalous Hall effect in kagome metal CsV3Sb5 nanoflakes

Following the discovery of a new family of kagomé prototypical materials with structure AV3Sb5 ( A=K, Rb, and Cs), there has been a heightened interest in studying the correlation-driven electronic phenomena in these kagomé lattice systems. The study of these materials has gone beyond magneto-transport measurements to reveal exciting features such as Dirac bands, anomalous Hall effect, bulk superconductivity with Tc∼0.9−2.5K, and the observation of charge density wave instabilities, suggesting an intertwining of topological physics and new quantum orders. Moreover, very recent works on numerous types of experiments have appeared further examining the unconventional superconductivity and the exotic electronic states found within these kagomé materials. Theories on the strong interactions that play a role in these systems have been proposed to shed light on the nature of these topological charge density waves. In this brief review, we summarize these recent experimental findings and theoretical proposals and envision the materials as new platforms to study the interplay between topological physics and strongly correlated electronic systems.
