Journal ArticleDOI
Manual chest compression vs use of an automated chest compression device during resuscitation following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: a randomized trial
Al Hallstrom,Thomas D. Rea,Michael R. Sayre,Jim Christenson,Andy R. Anton,Vince N. Mosesso,Lois Van Ottingham,Michele Olsufka,Sarah Pennington,Lynn J. White,Stephen Yahn,James Husar,Mary Morris,Leonard A. Cobb +13 more
TL;DR: Use of an automated LDB-CPR device as implemented in this study was associated with worse neurological outcomes and a trend toward worse survival than manual CPR.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Evidence-based Prehospital Guideline for External Hemorrhage Control: American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma
Eileen M. Bulger,David Snyder,Karen M Schoelles,Cathy Gotschall,Drew E. Dawson,Eddy Lang,Nels D. Sanddal,Frank K. Butler,Mary E. Fallat,Peter Taillac,Lynn J. White,Jeffrey P. Salomone,William Seifarth,Michael J. Betzner,Jay A. Johannigman,Norman E. McSwain +15 more
TL;DR: The development of an evidence-based guideline for external hemorrhage control in the prehospital setting is described and a clinical care guideline is proposed for adoption by EMS systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Patient Transfer from Nursing Home to Emergency Department: Outcomes and Policy Implications
TL;DR: Although the majority of nursing home (NH) residents transferred to hospital EDs in this population were appropriate, many patients were transferred without adequate documentation for the emergency physician (EP).
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of the 2005 American Heart Association cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care guidelines on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival.
TL;DR: In this large city, substantial improvement occurred in overall OOHCA survival rates following the implementation of the 2005 AHA guidelines for CPR and ECC, and these changes were associated with improvements in the quality of CPR.
