Dielectric studies on orientationally disordered phases of neopentylglycol (? and tris (hydroxymethyl aminomethane) ?

TL;DR: In this paper, the dielectric spectra up to frequencies of 1 GHz of the substances 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol (or neopentylglycol, NPG) and 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1, 3-pro panediol(or tris(hydroxyl)aminomethane, TRIS) have been determined in the orientationally disordered FCC and BCC phases respectively, in the ranges 305 - 353 K for NPG and 343 - 375 K for TRIS
Journal ArticleDOI

Disentangling molecular motions involved in the glass transition of a twist-bend nematic liquid crystal through dielectric studies.

TL;DR: Broadband dielectric spectroscopy has been used to study the molecular orientational dynamics of the glass-forming liquid crystal 1",7"-bis (4-cyanobiphenyl-4'-yl)heptane (CB7CB) over a wide temperature range of the twist-bend nematic phase, and the critical-like description via the dynamic scaling model seems to give quite good numerical fittings.
Journal ArticleDOI

Static and dynamic studies on cycloheptanol as two-orientational glass-former

TL;DR: In this paper, two orientational glass transitions of cycloheptanol are investigated and compared through static (thermodynamic and X-ray diffraction) as well as dynamic (dielectric spectroscopy) experimental techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermodynamic and dielectric studies concerning the influence of cylindrical submicrometer confinement on heptyloxycyanobiphenyl.

TL;DR: The dielectric measurements are revealed to be specially sensible to analyze the surface-induced nematic order due to the pore wall and the tricritical nature of the nematic-to-isotropic phase transition in bulk 7OCB as well as in treated and untreated Anopore confined geometries is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antiferroelectric Liquid-Crystal Gels

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis and characterization of mesogenic antiferroelectric gels obtained by in situ photopolymerization of mixtures of a nonchiral diacrylate and a nonreactive compound with an antiferrous SmC * A phase is described.
