Optimal separation of independent narrow-band sources: concept and performance

An adaptive antenna array is defined as an antenna array whose output is the weighted sum of the signals received at the antennas, with signal-dependent automatic adjustment of the weights to optimize some criterion. This open-literature bibliography of papers on the subject is intended to provide a brief overview of the field, and the authors involved, up to the end of 1985. Papers are listed both by subject area and by sole/primary/secondary author.

GNSS array receiver faced with overloaded interferences: anti-jamming performance and the incident directions of interferences

A reception array AR1 to ARn and a transmission array AE1 to AEp are used as aerials. The two arrays include several access channels equipped in series with programmable means of, on the one hand, attenuation and on the other of delay. For reception, one reference channel is provided for each element. These channels make it possible, through correlations 21, to determine covariance quantities 22 between receiver elements. A processor 25 controls the transmission and reception arrays accordingly. The signals received are then summed 31 and reprocessed 32, 33, 34, 30, 35 before being redistributed 36 to the transmission elements.

Method and device for processing microwave radio signals, in particular for obtaining radiation patterns with psuedopods

The effects of additional interference signals on the performance of a fully adaptive array are considered. The case where the number of interference signals exceeds the number of array degrees of freedom is addressed. It is shown how performance is affected as a function of the number of array elements, the number of interference signals, and the directivity of the array antennas. By using directive auxiliary elements, the performance of the array can be as good as the performance when the additional interference signals are not present.

Effects of additional interfering signals on adaptive array performance

In antenna arrays, the number of nulls that can be formed independently is equal to or less than the number of array elements minus one. Therefore, if the number of interferences exceeds the number of freedom for pattern synthesis in adaptive arrays, nulls in the radiation pattern can not be steered toward each interference direction. To clarify the behavior of the adaptive array in such an environment, an analysis is made for the case where two interferences are impinging on the two-element directionally constrained adaptive array. As a result, it is proved that the adaptive array acts to reduce the undesired noise power at the array output. However, improvement in output signal-to-noise ratio is insufficient because of the limitation in null formation.
