The present study explores one of the biggest causes of the lack of organizational knowledge creation: knowledge hiding (KH). KH can be provoked by the deviant and detached behaviours of leaders and/or the motivations of employees. In this context, leaders assume a key role in reducing the effect of KH. Through the lens of transformational leadership (TL), a sample of 758 European SMEs with a total number of 2,232 employees operating in a knowledge-intensive sector is investigated. The scope is to evaluate the correlation between the three main characteristics of transformational leadership (i.e., trust, a collaborative environment, and the involvement of employees) and the phenomenon of KH through a logistic regression analysis. It emerges that TL can influence the organizational context and redefine the behaviours related to KH. In addition, empathic leadership can provide added value for companies since a collaborative environment and common objectives reduce the level of KH.

Job Satisfaction as Affected by Types of Leadership: A Case Study of Greek Tourism Sector

The researchers selected a sample of n= 52 Human Resource employees from public sector organization by using a convenient sampling method. Structural equational modeling also helped to validate the proposed relationship between study variables. Findings revealed a strong positive relationship between transformational leadership and job satisfaction among the HR employees. As found, despite Covid-19, transformational leaders help employees work effectively and increase employee’s job satisfaction and organizational commitment. By keeping in view, the results of the present investigation consider transformational leadership as highly capable tool for dealing with organizational crisis and management. The effect of transformation leadership on government employee job satisfaction during Covid-19

Leadership style is considered one of the critical factors in employee engagement with the leader, the organization, and the organization’s success. So far, there have been studies on the relationship between leadership style and employee engagement. However, there has been no research on the relationship between leadership style and the engagement of civil servants in Vietnam’s provincial public sector, which is a gap that needs to be researched. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between three leadership styles, namely transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and laissez-faire leadership concerning engagement to work and performance of public sector employees, and at the same time determines the relationship of leadership styles with demographic variables and with employee engagement in the Vietnamese public sector. The study data were collected from a convenient sample of leaders from the departmental level to the board of directors, and the survey sample was also collected from employees in state agencies who were feedback by answering questionnaires at a time. A total of 325 people, who are leaders and civil servants in the provincial public sector in Vietnam, responded. SPSS statistical software version 26.0 was used to process the data obtained through surveying the opinions of respondents in the leadership style questionnaire and the employee participation questionnaire. The results of the analysis show that leadership styles are closely related to employee engagement. The study also discovered that the level of an employee’s engagement to work depends largely on leadership style. Recommendations are made when a leader practices the right leadership style to increase employee engagement and vice versa.

Transformational, Transactional, Laissez-faire Leadership Styles and Employee Engagement: Evidence From Vietnam’s Public Sector

Abstract This analysis explores the relationship between transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire leadership styles with staff work engagement at the department level in the public sector in Vietnam. Using a cluster sampling method, a total of 378 participants were selected and agreed to participate in a survey by completing a questionnaire on the relationship between leadership style and work engagement. All participants are attendees of a training course for department-level leaders at the School of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Administration Officers under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Vietnam. A regression was run on the collected data to test the hypothesis on the relationship between leadership styles and staff task performance. The regression results show that there is a significant indirect relationship between staff work engagement and innovative work behavior and task performance. In addition, there is a relatively positive relationship between the transformational leadership style and transactional leadership style of the department-level leaders in the Vietnamese public sector with staff work engagement, particularly innovative work behavior and task performance. On the contrary, laissez-faire leadership style negatively impacts staff work engagement and innovative work behavior. Staff work engagement is an integral part of the relationship between leadership style and leadership effectiveness. The findings suggest that the Vietnamese public sector should aim to identify transformational and transactional leaders. This research focuses on the department level and is limited to three leadership styles (transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire) only. Future research therefore can expand the scope to higher levels than the department leaders.

The relationship between leadership style and staff work engagement: An empirical analysis of the public sector in Vietnam

In the fast changing world, organizational leadership becomes more important and it is considered as a critical success factor. In this regard, not only top-level managers need to show their capabilities, but all managers at all levels of the organization also feel the need to cooperate with others to achieve the desired results. Regardless of their job, they should know how to influence others, provoke them into working and also they must take responsibility for outcomes. Transformational leadership refers to leaders who seek to create ideas and new perspectives to create a new path of growth and prosperity in front of the organization. By developing commitment, passion and loyalty among managers and staff, they mobilize organization’s members to make fundamental changes in fundaments and basis of the organization in order to be prepared and to gain necessary capabilities for moving in new directions and reaching higher ideal performance peaks. Transformational leader is inspiring and creative and leads people in a way that they try more than their abilities in the organization and also invent and innovate in their work area. Scholars and theorists believe that transformational leadership management is more effective than pragmatic leadership. Transformational leaders make their employees realize the value of what they do.
