The 2016 central Italy seismic sequence: a first look at the mainshocks, aftershocks, and source models
Lauro Chiaraluce,R. Di Stefano,Elisa Tinti,Laura Scognamiglio,M. Michele,Emanuele Casarotti,Marco Cattaneo,P. De Gori,Claudio Chiarabba,Giancarlo Monachesi,Anna Maria Lombardi,Luisa Valoroso,Diana Latorre,Simone Marzorati +13 more
TL;DR: The 2016 central Italy seismic sequence consists so far of a series of moderate-to-large earthquakes activating within a few months along a 60 km-long and Apenninic-trending normal-fault system.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Amatrice 2016 seismic sequence: a preliminary look at the mainshock and aftershocks distribution
M. Michele,Raffaele Di Stefano,Lauro Chiaraluce,Marco Cattaneo,Pasquale De Gori,Giancarlo Monachesi,Diana Latorre,Simone Marzorati,Luisa Valoroso,Chiara Ladina,Claudio Chiarabba,Valentino Lauciani,Massimo Fares +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, aftershocks of the M W 6.0 Amatrice 2016 mainshock were relocated by inverting with a non-linear probabilistic method P- and S-arrival time readings produced and released in near realtime by the analyst seismologists of IGNV on duty in the seismic monitoring room.
Journal ArticleDOI
Machine‐Learning‐Based High‐Resolution Earthquake Catalog Reveals How Complex Fault Structures Were Activated during the 2016–2017 Central Italy Sequence
Yen Joe Tan,Felix Waldhauser,William L. Ellsworth,Miao Zhang,Weiqiang Zhu,M. Michele,Lauro Chiaraluce,Gregory C. Beroza,Margarita Segou +8 more
TL;DR: This work analyzes continuous data from a dense network of 139 seismic stations to build a high-precision catalog of ∼900,000 earthquakes spanning a 1 yr period, based on arrival times derived using a deep-neural-network-based picker.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fine‐scale structure of the 2016‐2017 Central Italy Seismic Sequence from data recorded at the Italian National Network
Journal ArticleDOI
The influence of subsurface geology on the distribution of earthquakes during the 2016‐-2017 Central Italy seismic sequence
Massimiliano Rinaldo Barchi,Filippo Carboni,M. Michele,Maurizio Ercoli,Claudia Giorgetti,Massimiliano Porreca,Salvatore Azzaro,Lauro Chiaraluce +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors integrated surface and subsurface geological data with the ones obtained by an irregular network of seismic reflection profiles, aimed at providing a comprehensive reconstruction of the surface lithologies and structures in this area, and constructed a set of five geological cross-sections, passing through the mainshock epicentral areas (Mw ≥ 5.5) of the seismic sequence.
