Influential diamagnetic magnesium (Mg2+) ion substitution in nano-spinel zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4): Thermal, structural, spectral, optical and physisorption analysis

Recent developments show that the exceptional physical, optical, magnetic, and electrical properties of spinel ferrite (SF) nanomaterials have now attracted the attention as high-density data storage materials, catalysts, gas sensors, rechargeable lithium batteries, information storage systems, magnetic bulk cores, adsorbents, magnetic fluids, microwave absorbers, and medical diagnostics. The aim of this review consists on an overview on the methods of preparation, the crystal structure and application of SFs used in technology for the design of new materials and devices. The chapter begins with a review of the different synthesis methods commonly used for the preparation of SFs. Then, the structural features of spinel unit cell, crystal chemical parameters, and extrinsic magnetic and optical properties are described in this chapter. Since the magnetism of SFs depends not only on particle chemistry and phase but also on the particle size and environment, the role of cationic distribution and ion exchange interaction are explored in determining the magnetic properties of the system. In addition, the potential applications of SFs in different fields of technology are also discussed.

Thirty one genotypes of rice were evaluated for high grain yield. The results indicated that high estimates of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation were recorded for plant height, number of reproductive tillers per plant, panicle length, biological yield per plant, harvest index, test weight, number of grain per panicle and grain yield per plant. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance were revealed for plant height, number of reproductive tillers per plant, panicle length, biological yield per plant, harvest index, test weight, number of grain per panicle and grain yield per plant. Improvement in grain yield can be made by selecting these yield contributed characters having high heritability coupled with high genetic advance. Grain yield per plant showed significant and positive association with number of reproductive tillers per plant, panicle length, days to maturity, number of grain per panicle biological yield per plant and harvest index at both genotypic and phenotypic level. Thus, it can be inferred that selection based on any one of these traits either alone or in combination, will result in identifying high yielding strains. Path coefficient analysis of genotypic and phenotypic exhibited high positive and direct effect of harvest index, number of grains per panicle, test weight, biological yield per plant and plant height on grain yield per plant.

Structural, thermal and magnetic studies of MgxZn1−xFe2O4 nanoferrites: Study of exchange interactions on magnetic anisotropy

Coupling between superconducting and ferromagnetic states in hybrid oxide heterostructures is presently a topic of intense research. Such a coupling is due to the leakage of the Cooper pairs into the ferromagnet. However, tunneling of the Cooper pairs though an insulator was never considered plausible. Using depth sensitive polarized neutron reflectivity we demonstrate the coupling between superconductor and magnetic layers in epitaxial La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 (LCMO)/SrTiO3/YBa2Cu3O7−δ (YBCO) hybrid heterostructures, with SrTiO3 as an intervening oxide insulator layer between the ferromagnet and the superconductor. Measurements above and below the superconducting transition temperature (TSC) of YBCO demonstrate a large modulation of magnetization in the ferromagnetic layer below the TSC of YBCO in these heterostructures. This work highlights a unique tunneling phenomenon between the epitaxial layers of an oxide superconductor (YBCO) and a magnetic layer (LCMO) through an insulating layer. Our work would inspire further investigations on the fundamental aspect of a long range order of the triplet spin-pairing in hybrid structures.
