A consistent model coupling adhesion, friction, and unilateral contact

TL;DR: In this paper, a model considering both unilateral contact, Coulomb friction, and adhesion is presented, where the contact zone is considered as a material boundary and the local constitutive laws are derived by choosing two specific surface potentials: the free energy and the dissipation potential.

Approximation Results for a Class of Quasistatic Contact Problems Including Adhesion and Friction

TL;DR: In this paper, Cangemi et al. considered a quasistatic unilateral contact problem for which they presented a variational formulation and proved that if the friction coefficient is sufficiently small then the incremental formulation that can be derived from this discretization has a unique solution.
