Journal ArticleDOI

Chromosome banding in Amphibia. VIII. An unusual XY/XX-sex chromosome system in Gastrotheca riobambae (Anura, Hylidae).

TL;DR: The mitotic and meiotic chromosomes of the marsupial frog Gastrotheca riobambae were analysed with various banding techniques and it is shown that the constitutive heterochromatin in the Y chromosome consists of at least three different structural categories.

Unusual heteromorphic sex chromosomes in a marsupial frog

TL;DR: Heteromorphic sex chromosomes of the XY/XX-type were found in the karyotypes of the South American marsupial frogGastrotheca riobambae (Anura, Hylidae) because of a sex-specific difference in the number of nucleolus organizers.
