Distribution of Legionella Species and Serogroups Isolated by Culture in Patients with Sporadic Community-Acquired Legionellosis: An International Collaborative Survey
Victor L. Yu,Joseph F. Plouffe,Maddalena Castellani Pastoris,Janet E. Stout,M. I. Schousboe,Andreas F. Widmer,James T. Summersgill,Thomas M. File,Christopher M. Heath,David L. Paterson,David L. Paterson,Annette Chereshsky +11 more
TL;DR: This international collaborative survey identified culture-confirmed Legionellosis in 508 patients with sporadic community-acquired legionellosis and identified the Legionella species most commonly isolated in Australia and New Zealand.
Journal ArticleDOI
A multicenter evaluation of genotypic methods for the epidemiologic typing of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1: results of a pan-European study.
Norman K. Fry,Stella Alexiou-Daniel,Jette M Bangsborg,Sverker Bernander,Maddalena Castellani Pastoris,Jerome Etienne,Benita Forsblom,Valeria Gaia,Jörgen H. Helbig,Diane S. J. Lindsay,P. Christian Löck,Carmen Pelaz,Søren A. Uldum,Timothy G. Harrison +13 more
TL;DR: To compare genotypic methods for epidemiologic typing of Legionella pneumophila serogroup (sg) 1, in order to determine the best available method within Europe for implementation and standardization by members of the European Working Group on Legionella Infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Type I IFN Protects Permissive Macrophages from Legionella pneumophila Infection through an IFN-γ-Independent Pathway
Giovanna Schiavoni,Claudia Mauri,Davide Carlei,Filippo Belardelli,Maddalena Castellani Pastoris,Enrico Proietti +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown that when CD1 TG-macrophages are cultured for 7 days, they become permissive to Legionella infection, providing the first evidence for a role of IFN-αβ in the control of L. pneumophila infection in mouse models of susceptible macrophages and suggesting the existence of different pathways for the Control of intracellular bacteria in macrophage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple types of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 6 in a hospital heated-water system associated with sporadic infections.
Paolo Visca,Paola Goldoni,P. Christian Lück,Jürgen H. Helbig,L. Cattani,Giuseppe Giltri,Simone Bramati,Maddalena Castellani Pastoris +7 more
TL;DR: The long-term persistence in the hot-water system of different clones of L. pneumophila serogroup 6 indicates that repeated heat-based control measures were ineffective in eradicating the organism.
