Response time (RT) accounts as a common tool for emergency medical services (EMS) assessment. While the national standard RT has been established in Iran since 2007, its application has hardly been put into scrutiny. This study aimed at investigating the use of RT standard in assessing EMS in Iran. This systematic review included papers focusing on prehospital EMS assessment published in Google Scholar, Scopus, Embase, PubMed, and the Persian databases of Magiran and SID. Selection criteria involved all English and Persian studies focusing on RT as an assessment of prehospital EMS in the context of Iran. Repetitious papers and those presented in conferences were omitted, which left 21 papers published from 2007 to mid-2016 for systematic review. A data collection form was designed. This provided both inclusive information about the papers and indicators used to report RT in each paper (i.e., mean and percentages of RT below 8 min) as well as the use of these indicators vis-a-vis that of the standard. Quality of services provided by public funded ambulance program: Experience from a northern state in India

Introduction: Prehospital emergency health care plays an important role in saving lives. Proper performances of different parts of this system result in the rapid and timely deployment of an ambulance in patient’s place and prevention of death and disability. Thus, this research was conducted to compile performance evaluation indicators for pre-hospital emergency centers in 2017. Methods: This study is a qualitative-quantitative research conducted in 2017. In order to compile the indexes for evaluating the performance of pre-hospital emergency centers, the study was done in two phases. In phase one of the study, primary items and their fields were identified according to the recent literature. In the second phase, Delphi technic in three rounds was used to finalize the items and the fields. In the first round of Delphi technic, the identified items and fields were given to experts in forms of checklist. The items and fields with average of >4 and standard deviation of <1 were confirmed, items with average of <2 and standard deviation of <1 were removed, and other items were randomly passed into round two. In the second round, all the items with average of >4 and standard deviation of <1 were confirmed, items with an average of <3 and standard deviation of <1 were removed, and other items were randomly passed into round three. In round three, only items with average of >4 and standard deviation of <1 were confirmed, and other items were removed. Results: The results of the study showed that 9 items in field of facilities and physical space, 10 items in field of communication, 10 items in field of ambulance, 8 items in field of human resources, 9 items in field of regulations and protocols, 3 items in field of storing equipment in the center, and 3 items in field of training were identified. Conclusion: Considering the identification of seven effective factors in improving the quantitative and qualitative level of pre-hospital emergency services, it is highly important for authorized managers and decision-makers to improve all necessary factors.

Development of performance evaluation indicators for pre-hospital emergency centers

Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) is a scoring system for early detection or early warning to detect a worsening of the condition of pediatric patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between compliance with PEWS implementation with response time and patient safety at RSIA Muhammadiyah Probolinggo City. This research design uses correlation analytic with cross-sectional observation approach. The population in this study were all nurses at RSIA Muhammadiyah Probolinggo City. The sample in this study were 32 people. With the technique of probability sampling-random sampling. Data processing used chi square test. Compliance with PEWS implementation showed that most of them adhered to the application of PEWS as much as 25 (78%), response time obtained results that most were fast 25 (78%) and adhered to patient safety by 25 (78%). The analysis test uses the chi square test.

Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) Application Compliance with Response Time and Patient Safety

This study evaluated the time performance in the emergency response center to provide pre-hospital emergency services in Kermanshah. This study was a descriptive retrospective cross-sectional study. In this study 500 cases of patients from Shahrivar (September) 2012 to the end of Shahrivar (September) 2013 were selected and studied by the non-probability quota method. The measuring tool included a preset cases record sheet and sampling method was completing the cases record sheet by referring to the patients’ cases. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 18 and the concepts of descriptive and inferential statistics (Kruskal-Wallis test, benchmark Eta (Eta), Games-Howell post hoc test). The results showed that the interval mean between receiving the mission to reaching the scene, between reaching the scene to moving from the scene, and between moving from the scene to a health center was 7.28, 16.73 and 7.28 minutes. The overall mean of time performance from the scene to the health center was 11.34 minutes. Any intervention in order to speed up service delivery, reduce response times, ambulance equipment and facilities required for accuracy, validity and reliability of the data recorded in the emergency dispatch department, Continuing Education of ambulance staffs, the use of manpower with higher specialize levels such as nurses, supply the job satisfaction, and increase the coordination with other departments that are somehow involved in this process can provide the ground for reducing the loss and disability resulting from traffic accidents.
