The main objective of this study is to explore the complex nonlinear dynamics and chaos control in power systems. The rich dynamics of power systems were observed over a range of parameter values in the bifurcation diagram. Also, a variety of periodic solutions and nonlinear phenomena could be expressed using various numerical skills, such as time responses, phase portraits, Poincare maps, and frequency spectra. They have also shown that power systems can undergo a cascade of period-doubling bifurcations prior to the onset of chaos. In this study, the Lyapunov exponent and Lyapunov dimension were employed to identify the onset of chaotic motion. Also, state feedback control and dither signal control were applied to quench the chaotic behavior of power systems. Some simulation results were shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of these proposed control approaches.

Stability, Chaos Detection, and Quenching Chaos in the Swing Equation System

In this paper, a distributed generation (DG) integrated novel renewable energy system is proposed and analysis of bifurcation, chaotic behavior is observed. The integration of DG is the main property of renewable energy system, so in this model wind turbine generator (WTG) is integrated as a DG. Furthermore, dynamical load and Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices are also integrated. Renewable energy system is very complex, nonlinear dynamical system and it may exhibit chaos phenomenon in case of small, large disturbances or system parameter variations. The study of bifurcation and chaos behavior is essential in the proposed renewable energy system because it may lead to very serious results like voltage collapse, angle instability sometime blackout. The observation of bifurcation and chaotic oscillations are analyzed for wide range of parameter variations with the help of Lyapunov exponent, Lyapunov spectrum and bifurcation diagram. Simulation are done in MATLAB environment and simulation results reveals that the objective is achieved successfully.

Analysis of Global Bifurcation and Chaotic Oscillation in Distributed Generation Integrated Novel Renewable Energy System

This paper exclaims analysis of bifurcation and chaos phenomena in a 3-bus electrical power system model. The nonlinear dynamic modeling of proposed power system is achieved using generator, load models and equivalent circuit of 3-bus model. The reactive power of the motor is considered as a varying or bifurcation parameter and existence of dynamic behaviors like bifurcation and chaos in 3-bus power system model is discussed via. phase plane, time series plot, bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov spectrum and Poincare map. PID sliding surface-based sliding mode control is designed to control undesirable chaotic behavior in the proposed 3-bus power system and is not available in the literature. Simulation is achieved in MATLAB environment and obtained results show successful achievement of the objectives.

Bifurcation, Chaos and PID Sliding Mode Control of 3-Bus Power System

This paper analyzes the characteristics of chaotic oscillation of the second-order model of the power system, and presents an improved adaptive sliding mode control approach based on relay characteristic function. It restrains the high frequency chattering in sliding mode control. Lyapunov stability theory is used to prove the stability of the power system under control. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach could effectively control the chaotic oscillation of the system and suppress chattering.

Adaptive Sliding Mode Control of Chaotic Oscillation in Power System Based on Relay Characteristic Function

In this paper, the problem of chaos control for a four-dimensional fundamental power system (FDFPS) model is investigated. Pole placement-based proportional integral sliding mode control (PISMC) is designed to control the chaos present in the system. Proportional integral sliding mode control law is derived by placing the poles at appropriate location to control the chaotic behaviour in four-dimensional fundamental power systems. The sufficient condition is derived for the asymptotic stability of the sliding manifold using Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed controller reduces the chattering, simplifies the design of power system stabiliser. Further the proposed pole placement-based PISMC is compared with conventional SMC approach. MATLAB is used for simulation. Simulation results show the effectiveness of proposed PISMC scheme.

Chaos control of a four-dimensional fundamental power system using pole placement-based proportional integral sliding mode control

In this paper, control of chaos in an extended four-dimensional fundamental power system (FDFPS) using sliding mode control (SMC) is considered. First order sliding mode control laws are derived in order to control the chaotic behaviour in FDFPS. The sufficient stability condition is devised for the designed sliding manifold based on Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed control law simplifies the controller design of power system stabilizer and provides an effective and robust control to avoid the instability in the FDFPS. Simulation is presented in MATLAB environment and reveals the effectiveness of proposed SMC scheme.
