Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of mercury, lead and arsenic with respect to genotoxic effects on plant systems and the development of genetic tolerance

TL;DR: Studies on genotoxicity of metals discussed in this review showed that genotoxic effects could be in part responsible for metal phytotoxicity, deserving further examination to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mercury toxicity in plants

TL;DR: The possible causal mechanisms of mercury toxicity are changes in the permeability of the cell membrane, reactions of sulphydryl (-SH) groups with cations, affinity for reacting with phosphate groups and active groups of ADP or ATP, and replacement of essential ions, mainly major cations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Use of black tea in modulating clastogenic effects of arsenic in mice in vivo

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated whether tea extracts could protect against the damage caused by arsenic in vivo, and found that the degree of protection increases with duration of tea consumption, which may be attributed to the antioxidant and scavenging properties of tea infusion.
