Meta-analysis on carbon sequestration through Conservation Agriculture in Africa

TL;DR: In this paper, the carbon sequestration potential of CA is assessed, both in annual and perennial crops, in the different agro-climatic regions of Africa, and the potential estimate of annual CO2 sequestration in African agricultural soils through CA amounts to 143.5 Tg of C per year, that is 524 tg of CO2 per year.
Journal ArticleDOI

Legumes used as cover crops to reduce fertilisation problems improving soil nitrate in an organic orchard

TL;DR: Evaluating the possibilities of implantation and behaviour of different species of leguminous plants as a cover crop in the organic olive orchard found that Vicia ervilia was the legume that presented the best behaviour in the increase of the nitrate content in the soil.
Journal ArticleDOI

Soil organic matter and nutrient improvement through cover crops in a Mediterranean olive orchard

TL;DR: In this article, a permanent grass, Brachypodium distachyon (BRA); two annual crucifers, Eruca vesicaria (ERU) and Sinapis alba (SIN); and the natural flora of the area (SPV) were studied during four seasons in a Mediterranean olive orchard.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Effect of Conservation Agriculture and Environmental Factors on CO2 Emissions in a Rainfed Crop Rotation

TL;DR: In this paper, a field trial was conducted on a farm in Seville (Spain), where the authors compared conservation agriculture, including its three principles (no-tillage, permanent soil cover, and crop rotations), with conventional tillage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cover Crop Contributions to Improve the Soil Nitrogen and Carbon Sequestration in Almond Orchards (SW Spain)

TL;DR: In this paper, a field experiment was conducted during two-monitoring seasons to examine the soil nitrogen and carbon sequestration potential of three seeded cover crops [barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth), and a mixture of 65% barley and 35% vetch] and a control of spontaneous flora in irrigated almond orchards (SW Spain).
