Phylogeography of the Mantled Howler Monkey (Alouatta palliata; Atelidae, Primates) across Its Geographical Range by Means of Mitochondrial Genetic Analyses and New Insights about the Phylogeny of Alouatta

TL;DR: Two of the results strongly support the hypothesis that the South American A. palliata was the original population of this species; it has high genetic diversity and no evidence of population expansion and the existence of only 2 clearly defined subspecies within A.palliata.
Journal ArticleDOI

Small spotted bodies with multiple specific mitochondrial DNAs: existence of diverse and differentiated tigrina lineages or species (Leopardus spp: Felidae, Mammalia) throughout Latin America.

TL;DR: Two sets of mitochondrial (mt) DNA data from tigrinas sampled in Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, northwestern and northeastern Argentina and southern Brazil revealed the existence of seven different tigrina-like haplogroups, which could represent, at least, 4–6 different tigrate species following the Phylogenetic Species Concept (PSC).
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphological analysis of three Inia [Cetacea: Iniidae] populations from Colombia and Bolivia

TL;DR: Analysis of morphometric data strongly suggests that Inia are sexually dimorphic, with males smaller for several variables and more heterogeneous than females, and the existence of two distinct species ofInia with no subspecific distinction among populations is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI

First Molecular Phylogenetic Analysis of the Lagothrix Taxon Living in Southern Peru and Northern Bolivia: Lagothrix lagothricha tschudii (Atelidae, Primates), a New Subspecies.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors sequenced mitochondrial COI and COII genes (1,377 base pairs) of 166 woolly monkeys (Lagothrix) to determine the phylogenetic relationships of tschudii in reference to the other taxa within the genus Lagothrix, and to reconstruct the historical demographic evolution of this taxon.
