Journal ArticleDOI
Anesthetic-induced improvement of the inflammatory response to one-lung ventilation.
Elisena De Conno,Marc P. Steurer,Moritz Wittlinger,Marco P. Zalunardo,Walter Weder,Didier Schneiter,Ralph C. Schimmer,Richard Klaghofer,Thomas A. Neff,Edith R. Schmid,Donat R. Spahn,Birgit Roth Z'graggen,Martin Urner,Beatrice Beck-Schimmer +13 more
TL;DR: This prospective, randomized clinical study suggests an immunomodulatory role for the volatile anesthetic sevoflurane in patients undergoing OLV for thoracic surgery with significant reduction of inflammatory mediators and a significantly better clinical outcome (defined by postoperative adverse events) during sev of lurane anesthesia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Late pharmacologic conditioning with volatile anesthetics after cardiac surgery
Marc P. Steurer,Marc P. Steurer,Martina A. Steurer,Martina A. Steurer,Werner Baulig,Tobias Piegeler,Tobias Piegeler,Martin Schläpfer,Donat R. Spahn,Volkmar Falk,Pamela Dreessen,Oliver M. Theusinger,Edith R. Schmid,David E. Schwartz,Thomas A. Neff,Beatrice Beck-Schimmer +15 more
TL;DR: The data presented in this investigation indicate that late postconditioning with the volatile anesthetic sevoflurane might mediate cardiac protection, even with a late, brief, and low-dose application.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endotracheal tube cuff pressure changes during manual cuff pressure control manoeuvres: An in-vitro assessment
TL;DR: In this article, the course of cuff pressure from connecting the manometer to disconnecting it from the cuff pilot balloon was recorded using a pressure transducer, which contributed to a final cuff pressure below 20 cm H O in 31.3% of control manoeuvres.
Journal ArticleDOI
Postoperative delirium assessed by post anesthesia care unit staff utilizing the Nursing Delirium Screening Scale: a prospective observational study of 1000 patients in a single Swiss institution
TL;DR: Delirium screening with the NU-DESC, collected by nursing staff of a PACU is easily feasible and demonstrated a low incidence of delirium in the presented setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anesthetic management of patients undergoing bariatric surgery: two year experience in a single institution in Switzerland
TL;DR: The physiology and anatomy of bariatric patients demand a tailored approach from both the anesthesiologist and the perioperative team, and the interaction of a multi-disciplinary team is key to achieving good outcomes and a low rate of complications.
