Nonasthmatic chronic cough: No effect of treatment with an inhaled corticosteroid in patients without sputum eosinophilia.

TL;DR: Chronic cough did not respond to treatment with budesonide, perhaps because the cause was not associated with sputum eosinophilia, and patients with nonasthmatic chronic cough enrolled in this study had evidence of a mild neutrophilia and/or microvascular leakage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anti-inflammatory effects of salmeterol compared with beclomethasone in eosinophilic mild exacerbations of asthma: A randomized, placebo controlled trial

TL;DR: Results show that salmeterol improves the symptoms and airway function of patients with asthma, but has no effect on eosinophilic airway infiltration, which supports current asthma guidelines, which recommend the initial use of inhaled steroid to maximize clinical improvement.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease and airway hyperresponsiveness: concomitance beyond the realm of chance?* Doença do refluxo gastroesofágico e hiperresponsividade das vias aéreas: coexistência além da chance?

TL;DR: In this paper, controversial aspects of the relationships among asthma, airway hyperresponsiveness, and gastroesophageal reflux disease in adults and in children are reviewed. But the nature of the relationship between these two diseases remains unclear.
