New approach to the sign problem in quantum field theories: High density QCD on a Lefschetz thimble

TL;DR: A new approach to the sign problem is introduced, that seems to offer much room for improvements, and is illustrated first in the simple case of a scalar field theory with chemical potential, and then extended to the more challenging case of QCD at finite baryonic density.
Journal ArticleDOI

Monte Carlo simulations on the Lefschetz thimble: Taming the sign problem

TL;DR: In this paper, the first practical Monte Carlo calculations of the Lefschetz thimble formulation of quantum field theories with a sign problem were presented, and the results are in excellent agreement with known results.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quark flavor effects on gluon and ghost propagators

TL;DR: In this paper, the full nonperturbative ghost and gluon two-point Green functions were computed by using gauge field configurations with twisted-mass quark flavors, and the effect of quark flavor effects on the ghost propagators was investigated in a wide range of momenta, bridging the deep infrared and intermediate momenta domain of QCD interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI

An efficient method to compute the residual phase on a Lefschetz thimble

TL;DR: An efficient method to compute the so-called residual phase that appears when performing Monte Carlo calculations on a Lefschetz thimble is proposed, which is stochastic and its cost scales linearly with the physical volume and quadratically with the length of the extra dimension along the gradient flow.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamics and thermodynamics of a nonlocal Polyakov--Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with running coupling

TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlocal covariant extension of the two-flavor Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model is constructed, with built-in constraints from the running coupling of QCD at high-momentum and instanton physics at low-momential scales.
