The present invention relates to a diverter system to allow a line inspection robot to traverse an object. The diverter system includes a first diverter attached to a shield wire, a second diverter attached to the shield wire at a position spaced from the first diverter, and a bridge having a first end connected to the first diverter and a second end connected to the second diverter. The first diverter disengages the robot from the shield wire and onto the bridge and the second diverter disengages the robot from the bridge and onto the shield wire to allow the robot to traverse the object.

A driving wheel of a robot moving along a wire includes an inner wheel in which a rotation axis being driven to rotate by a motor is fitted, an outer wheel formed to surround the inner wheel and seated on the wire, and a shock absorbing support to elastically connect and support the inner wheel and the outer wheel between the inner wheel and the outer wheel, and a shock being transmitted is absorbed by allowing a relative movement of the inner wheel and the outer wheel by the elastic movement of the shock absorbing support. A robot moving includes a robot body, the driving wheel, a motor to drive the driving wheel by rotating the rotation axis, a connecting arm to connect and support the driving wheel and the robot body.

The invention concerns a remote-controlled vehicle designed to be mounted on a support and capable of clearing an obstacle on the support. The vehicle comprises first and second mobile frames. At least one articulated arm is mounted mobile on the first frame and a wheel is mounted on the articulated arm to maintain the vehicle on the support. A fastening means co-operates with the wheel and is adapted to retain the wheel on the support. At least one temporary support arm is mounted mobile on the second frame. The temporary support arm comprises retaining means for maintaining the vehicle on the support. The vehicle comprises motor means connected between the frames and the arms for moving same with respect to one another so as to clear an obstacle encountered on the support.

A remote-controlled vehicle adapted to be mounted on at least one conductor and to pass over an obstacle encountered thereon. The vehicle includes: a frame, inspection systems, motors used to move the vehicle, a remote control system, at least two carrying arms pivotally mounted to the frame and exerting a pressure in the direction of the conductor(s) for suspending the frame to the conductor(s) and two opposing wheels attached to each carrying arm in order to enable the vehicle to travel along said conductor(s) while suspended. The axis of rotation of each of the wheels is inclined in relation to the vertical axis and at least one of the wheels is actuated by the motors. At least one temporary support rotor is equipped with at least two pivoting blades disposed above the corresponding conductor in order to temporarily support the vehicle when one of the wheels encounters an obstacle.

LineScout is a transmission line inspection robot developed by Hydro-Quebec. In operation since 2006, it has been deployed on a few major grids throughout the world. Over the years, the technology has demonstrated its value for grid operators, notably by contributing to the reliability, the sustainability and the availability of transmission networks. This paper presents the latest developments and adapted systems implemented on LineScout as well as a summary on some field deployments performed over the last two years.
