Causes and consequences of oil price shocks on the UK economy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the impact and repercussions of oil price fluctuations on the UK economy using an empirical strategy which allows them to decompose oil price changes from the underlying source of the shock and show that oil shocks play a non-negligible role in terms of variation in the main UK macroeconomic aggregates.

TL;DR: The authors empirically tested the Keynesian hypothesis that government defence spending positively impacts on aggregate output, by using a long-run equilibrium model for the US and UK, and showed that defence-spending priorities addressed to international security may revitalize pro-cyclical effects in the UK, by an industrial policy of defence shared with the EU members.

Spillovers among energy commodities and the Russian stock market

TL;DR: In this article , the authors examine the connectedness in the energy commodities sector and the Russian stock market over the period 2005-2020 using the variance decomposition approach and find that the Russian Oil & Gas and Metals & Mining sectors are net shock contributors of crude oil and have the highest spillovers to other Russian sectors.
