Early Surgical Therapy for Drug-Resistant Temporal Lobe Epilepsy: A Randomized Trial
Jerome Engel,Michael P. McDermott,Samuel Wiebe,John T. Langfitt,John M. Stern,Sandra Dewar,Michael R. Sperling,Irenita Gardiner,Giuseppe Erba,Itzhak Fried,Margaret Jacobs,Harry V. Vinters,Scott Mintzer,Karl Kieburtz +13 more
TL;DR: Whether surgery soon after failure of 2 antiepileptic drug (AED) trials is superior to continued medical management in controlling seizures and improving quality of life (QOL) is sought and among patients with newly intractable disabling MTLE, resective surgery plus AED treatment resulted in a lower probability of seizures during year 2 of follow-up than continued AEDtreatment alone.

Felbamate for partial seizures: results of a controlled clinical trial.
Ilo E. Leppik,Fritz E. Dreifuss,Gordon W. Pledger,Nina M. Graves,Nancy Santilli,I. Drury,J. Y. Tsay,Margaret Jacobs,E. Bertram,James J. Cereghino,G. Cooper,J. T. Sahlroot,Philip H. Sheridan,M. Ashworth,Soo Ik Lee,T. L. Sierzant +15 more
TL;DR: The results of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial in patients with partial seizures indicates that felbamate is safe and effective in the treatment of comedicated patients with severely refractory epilepsy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progressive myoclonus epilepsy treated with zonisamide
TL;DR: Two patients with progressive myoclonus epilepsy of the Unverricht-Lundborg type and with intractable seizures in spite of standard anticonvulsant regimens were treated with zonisamide, and both had a marked decrease in seizure frequency and significant improvement of functioning.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nonepileptic events in childhood.
TL;DR: The medical records of 27 children admitted to the MINCEP Epilepsy Program for evaluation of intractable epilepsy but later shown to have nonepileptic events by EEG with simultaneous video monitoring were reviewed, finding intensive neurodiagnostic EEG‐video recording is the preferred method for distinguishing nonepilesptic from epileptic seizures.
