Brief Research Report: Virus-Specific Humoral Immunity at Admission Predicts the Development of Respiratory Failure in Unvaccinated SARS-CoV-2 Patients
Ana Tajuelo,Octavio Carretero,Estéfani García-Ríos,Mireia Lopez-Siles,Olga Cano,M. Vázquez,Vicente Mas,Isabel Rodríguez-Goncer,Antonio Lalueza,Francisco López-Medrano,Rafael San Juan,Mario Fernández-Ruiz,José María Aguado,Michael J. McConnell,Pilar Pérez-Romero +14 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that patients with RF that survived infection had significantly higher IgM, total IgG, IgG1 and neutralizing titers compared to patients withRF that succumb to infection, suggesting that using humoral response variables could be used as a prognostic marker for guiding the clinical management of unimmunized patients admitted to the hospital for SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of single-nucleotide polymorphisms in TLR3 (rs3775291) and TLR9 (rs352139) on the risk of CMV infection in kidney transplant recipients
Natalia Redondo,Isabel Rodríguez-Goncer,Patricia Parra,Tamara Ruiz-Merlo,Francisco López-Medrano,Esther A. González,Natalia Polanco,Hernando Trujillo,Ana Hernandez,Rafael San Juan,Amado Andrés,José María Aguado,Mario Fernández-Ruiz +12 more
TL;DR: TLR3/TLR9 genotyping may inform CMV infection risk after KT, and carriers of the TLR9 (rs352139) TC/CC genotypes showed lower CMV-specific interferon-γ-producing CD4+ T-cell counts measured by intracellular cytokine staining compared with the TT genotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessing the risk of de novo malignancy in kidney transplant recipients: role for monitoring of peripheral blood lymphocyte populations.
Mario Fernández-Ruiz,Francisco López-Medrano,Luis M. Allende,Amado Andrés,Estela Paz-Artal,José María Aguado +5 more
TL;DR: The potential utility of a monitoring strategy based on some easily available proxy for the posttransplant status of the cell-mediated immunity in an attempt to individualize cancer prevention in this population of patients is explored.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Predictive Score at Admission for Respiratory Failure Among Hospitalized Patients with Confirmed 2019 Coronavirus Disease: A Simple Tool for a Complex Problem
Antonio Lalueza,Jaime Lora-Tamayo,Guillermo Maestro de la Calle,María Dolores Folgueira,Estibaliz Arrieta,Borja de Miguel-Campo,Raquel Díaz-Simón,David Lora,Cristina de la Calle,Mikel Mancheño-Losa,Álvaro Marchán-López,A. García-Reyne,Mario Fernández-Ruiz,Javier Sayas-Catalán,Antonio Serrano,Cecilia Cueto-Felgueroso,Rafael San Juan,Rocío García-García,Mercedes Catalán,José María Aguado,Carlos Lumbreras +20 more
TL;DR: Mancheno-Losa et al. as discussed by the authors analyzed the clinical characteristics of the initial wave of patients with COVID-19 attended in our center, and identified the key variables predicting the development of respiratory failure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Derivation and external validation of the SIMPLICITY score as a simple immune-based risk score to predict infection in kidney transplant recipients
Mario Fernández-Ruiz,Daniel Serón,Angel Alonso,David Lora,Domingo Hernández,Esther González,María José Pérez-Sáez,Gonzalo Gomez,Luis Manuel Pallardó-Mateu,Luisa Jimeno-García,Frederic Cofan,Alex Gutiérrez-Dalmau,Juan Carlos Ruiz,Ana Ramírez-Puga,Raquel Santana Estupiñán,Roberto Marcén,José Portolés,Miguel Ángel Muñoz-Cepeda,Francisco López-Medrano,Rafael San Juan,Amado Andrés,José María Aguado +21 more
TL;DR: The SIMPLICITY score, based on easily available immune parameters, allows for stratification of kidney transplant recipients at month one according to their expected risk of subsequent infection.
