Journal ArticleDOI
Obesity and cardiac function.
TL;DR: Depressed LV function is already present in relatively young obese people, even if they are free from signs of cardiopathy and other associate diseases, and the degree of impairment of heart function seems to parallel the level of obesity.
Journal Article
Serum uric acid and hypertension : the Olivetti heart study
Fabrizio Jossa,Eduardo Farinaro,Salvatore Panico,Vittorio Krogh,Egidio Celentano,Rocco Galasso,Mario Mancini,Maurizio Trevisan +7 more
TL;DR: Multiple logistic regression analysis showed an independent positive association between serum uric acid levels and development of hypertension and according to more severe degrees of hypertension, the relative risk to develop hypertension was still significant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pravastatin reduces carotid intima-media thickness progression in an asymptomatic hypercholesterolemic mediterranean population: the Carotid Atherosclerosis Italian Ultrasound Study.
Michele Mercuri,M. Gene Bond,Cesare R. Sirtori,Fabrizio Veglia,Gaetano Crepaldi,F. Saverio Feruglio,Giancario Descovich,Giancario Descovich,Giorgio Ricci,Paolo Rubba,Mario Mancini,Giuseppe Gallus,Giuseppe Bianchi,Gioacchino D'Alò,Alessandro Ventura +14 more
TL;DR: Pravastatin stops the progression of carotid IMT in asymptomatic, moderately hypercholesterolemic men and women, and this finding extends the beneficial effects of cholesterol lowering to the primary prevention of atherosclerosis in a population with relatively low cardiovascular event rates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronary Heart Disease: Reducing the Risk The Scientific Background to Primary and Secondary Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease A Worldwide View
TL;DR: The International Task Force for Prevention of CHD has developed an updated document that takes into account the results of the recent, major, lipid-lowering trials of primary and secondary prevention, and maximizes the use of dietary methods and provides clear indications for drug treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abnormalities of Calcium Metabolism in Essential Hypertension
Pasquale Strazzullo,V. Nunziata,Massimo Cirillo,R. Giannattasio,Liberato Aldo Ferrara,P. L. Mattioli,Mario Mancini +6 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis of primary renal calcium leak in essential hypertension is supported and enhanced urinary calcium excretion rate may cause compensatory parathyroid overactivity.
