Journal ArticleDOI
Traffic pollutants affect fertility in men
Michele De Rosa,S. Zarrilli,Luigi Paesano,Umberto Carbone,Bartolomeo Boggia,Mario Petretta,Antonella Maisto,Francesca Cimmino,Giancarmelo Puca,Annamaria Colao,Gaetano Lombardi +10 more
TL;DR: The finding that blood methaemoglobin and PB were inversely correlated with sperm parameters indicates that nitrogen oxide and Pb adversely affect semen quality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systemic hypertension and impaired glucose tolerance are independently correlated to the severity of the acromegalic cardiomyopathy.
Annamaria Colao,Roberto Baldelli,Paolo Marzullo,Elisabetta Ferretti,Diego Ferone,Patrizia Gargiulo,Mario Petretta,Guido Tamburrano,Gaetano Lombardi,Antonio Liuzzi +9 more
TL;DR: Compared to patients with uncomplicated acromegaly, those with hypertension but without abnormalities of glucose tolerance had an increased prevalence of LV hypertrophy, and disease duration, circulating GH, and IGF-I levels were similar in the 2 groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of converting enzyme inhibition on heart period variability in patients with acute myocardial infarction.
Domenico Bonaduce,Fortunato Marciano,Mario Petretta,M L Migaux,Gianfranco Morgano,Valter Bianchi,Luigi Salemme,Giuseppe Valva,Mario Condorelli +8 more
TL;DR: This study supports the hypothesis that the renin-angiotensin system modulates the amplitude of ULF and VLF power and demonstrates that in MI patients, converting enzyme inhibition favorably modifies measures of heart period variability strongly associated with a poor prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of gender in primary prevention of coronary heart disease with statin therapy: A meta-analysis
TL;DR: It was showed that statin therapy reduced the risk of CHD events in men without prior cardiovascular disease, but not in women, and statins did not reduce therisk of total mortality both in men and women.
Journal ArticleDOI
High Prevalence of Cardiac Valve Disease in Acromegaly: An Observational, Analytical, Case-Control Study
Annamaria Colao,Letizia Spinelli,Paolo Marzullo,Rosario Pivonello,Mario Petretta,Carolina Di Somma,Giovanni Vitale,Domenico Bonaduce,Gaetano Lombardi +8 more
TL;DR: The persistence of valve disease in patients with cured acromegaly is likely to be correlated with the persistence of left ventricular hypertrophy, which should be carefully and continuously monitored as an aspect of the risk of cardiac dysfunction in these patients.
