Mechanical behaviour of granular materials used in analogue modelling: insights from grain characterisation, ring-shear tests and analogue experiments

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the mechanical behavior of dry granular materials through ring-shear tests, grain characterisation, and simple analogue experiments analysed by X-ray computed tomography.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparisons between analogue and numerical models of thrust wedge development

TL;DR: In this article, an analogue and finite element numerical model with frictional and viscous properties are used to model thrust wedge development, and the qualitative agreement between analogue and numerical models is encouraging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sandbox experiments on basin inversion: testing the influence of basin orientation and basin fill

TL;DR: In this paper, an analogue modelling experiment is performed to determine factors affecting the style of deformation during inversion of an asymmetric graben structure, specifically variations in thickness and distribution of strong and weak layers constituting the graben fill and initial basin orientation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inversion of a symmetric basin: insights from a comparison between analogue and numerical experiments

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used both analogue and numerical experiments to study the basin inversion by shortening of a symmetric sedimentary basin and found that weak layers play an important role in localising shortening with limited reactivation of pre-existing (but weakened) faults.
