Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence for separate genetic control of crossing over and chiasma maintenance in maize

TL;DR: The meiotic cytological behavior of chromosomes in maize microsporocytes homozygous for the recessive mutant desynaptic was studied at various stages and it was found that following apparently normal pachytene synapsis there appears to be sporadic precocious desynapsis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence for homologous pairing of chromosomes prior to meiotic prophase in maize

TL;DR: It is concluded that some degree of homologous chromosome pairing may occur widely at anaphase or telophase and that therefore, as has been previously suggested, homologues may be loosely aligned throughout premeiotic interphase in preparation for their subsequent synapsis.
Journal ArticleDOI

The mechanism of meiotic homologue pairing.

TL;DR: A unified, more complex model is considered which is designed to accommodate the various relevant findings and invokes the interaction of intranuclear structures with intercalary and/or terminal chromosomal pairing sites, e.g. filamentous structures which specifically bind to these, and a contractile system involving proteins such as actin and myosin to draw homologues together.
Journal ArticleDOI

Homologous chromosome pairing.

TL;DR: It is felt that currently available evidence does not warrant full acceptance of commonly accepted precepts, and that alternatives should be considered.
