Cross-section dependence in nonstationary panel models: a novel estimator

TL;DR: Eberhardt et al. as mentioned in this paper used Monte Carlo simulations to investigate the impact of nonstationarity, parameter heterogeneity and cross-section dependence on estimation and inference in macro panel data, and compared the performance of standard panel estimators with that of their own two-step method (the AMG) and the Pesaran (2006) Common Correlated Effects (CCE) estimators in time series panels with arguably similar characteristics to those encountered in empirical applications using cross-country macro data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimating panel time-series models with heterogeneous slopes

TL;DR: In this paper, a new Stata command, xtmg, is introduced that implements three panel time-series estimators, allowing for heterogeneous slope coefficients across group members: the Pesaran and Smith (199...
Journal ArticleDOI

Public debt and growth: Heterogeneity and non-linearity

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the long-run relationship between public debt and growth in a large panel of countries, and find some support for a negative relationship and no evidence for a similar, let alone common, debt threshold within countries.
Journal ArticleDOI

Econometrics for grumblers: a new look at the literature on cross-country growth empirics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present two general empirical frameworks for cross-country productivity analysis and demonstrate that they encompass the approaches in the growth empirics literature of the past two decades.

Productivity analysis in global manufacturing production

TL;DR: This paper analyzed manufacturing production across a large number of developing and developed economies and found that differences in production technology are of crucial importance for understanding cross-country differences in labour productivity and their underlying causes.
