Earth’s youngest known ultrahigh-temperature granulites discovered on Seram, eastern Indonesia

TL;DR: The discovery of 16 Ma UHT granulites from the Kobipoto Mountains of Seram in eastern Indonesia has been reported in this paper, where they were shown to have required temperatures of ∼950 °C at ∼8 kbar pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Timing and heat sources for the Barrovian metamorphism, Scotland

TL;DR: In this paper, the age of peak metamorphism of Barrovian migmatites was calculated using the SHRIMP U/Pb zircon ages of 472.2 ± 5.9 Ma and 471.2± 5.8 Ma, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recognizing episodic lithospheric thinning along a convergent plate margin: the example of the Early Oligocene Alps

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a synthesis of existing data from the European Alps, supporting the hypothesis on tectonic mode switches, and suggest that at ca. 38-34 Ma, a period of N-S (orogen perpendicular) shortening led to the formation of medium to ultra-high-pressure mineral assemblages by lithosphere-scale thrust imbrication.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dating microstructures by the Ar-40/Ar-39 step-heating technique: deformation-pressure-temperature-time history of the Penninic Units of the Western Alps

TL;DR: In this article, a strong correlation is observed between measured ages, mica composition and deformation fabrics, allowing to estimate an age of 44.4 ± 0.4 ǫ for the formation of phengite-bearing fabrics in eclogite facies conditions (S HP ) and 42.0 − 0.5 Á± 0.1 ÁÁ for the microstructurally younger muscovite bearing shear fabrics, which formed in greenschist facies condition (SZ gr1 ).
Journal ArticleDOI

Mesozoic Paleo-Pacific Subduction Beneath SW Borneo: U-Pb Geochronology of the Schwaner Granitoids and the Pinoh Metamorphic Group

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented new geochemistry, zircon U-Pb and 40Ar/39Ar age data from igneous and metamorphic rocks from the Schwaner Mountains to investigate their tectono-magmatic histories.
