Numerical studies on the propagation of sudden impulses in the dipole magnetosphere

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a time-dependent numerical experiment when the dayside magnetopause is perturbed by sudden impulses in the solar wind, and show that the propagation of the leading wavefronts undergoes significant refraction owing to the inhomogeneity of dipolar geometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Simulation study of ion two-stream instability in the auroral acceleration region

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the ion two-stream instability on hydrogen and oxygen distributions at small relative drifts was investigated and it was found that the oblique modes contribute significantly to heating.
Journal ArticleDOI

An MHD simulation study of the poloidal mode field line resonance in the Earth's dipole magnetosphere

TL;DR: In this paper, the poloidal mode field line resonance in the Earth's dipole magnetic field is investigated using cold plasma ideal MHD simulations in dipole geometry, where the perturbation is localized at magnetic shell L = 7 with plasma flow in the radial direction (electric field component in the azimuthal direction).
Journal ArticleDOI

Pitch Angle Scattering of Energetic Electrons by BBFs

TL;DR: In this article, the field line curvature scattering by the magnetic field structure associated with bursty bulk flows (BBFs) has been studied, using simulated output fields from the Lyon-Fedder-Mobarry global magnetohydrodynamic code for specified solar wind input.
