Aliphatic and aromatic terpenoid biomarkers in Cretaceous and Paleogene angiosperm fossils from Japan

TL;DR: In this paper, the distributions of aliphatic and aromatic terpenoids in Cretaceous and Paleogene angiosperm fossils from Japan were investigated, and the authors defined an alternative to the traditional triterpenoid/diterpenoids ratio proposed in the literature, and suggested that ar-AGI is best calculated using only the oleanane-, ursane-and lupane-type aromatic triterpoids, and that the chrysene-and picene-type polyaromatic hydrocarbons be excluded.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hironoia fusiformis gen. et sp. nov.; a cornalean fruit from the Kamikitaba locality (Upper Cretaceous, Lower Coniacian) in northeastern Japan.

TL;DR: The recognition of an unequivocal cornalean fruit in the Early Coniacian–Early Santonian of Japan provides the earliest record of this group in the fossil record and establishes a minimum age for the early divergence of the asterid clade, a major group of living angiosperms comprising more than a third of all species of extant flowering plants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Floral Evidence of Annonaceae from the Late Cretaceous of Japan

TL;DR: The multipartite construction of the fossil flower, combined with the form of the stamens, indicates a relationship to Annonaceae in the order Magnoliales, and provides the earliest record of the family and documents the presence of Annon Families in eastern Eurasia during the middle part of the Late Cretaceous.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pollen morphology, exine structure and systematics of Acalyphoideae (Euphorbiaceae), Part 4

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the pollen of a grand total of 460 collections representing 372 species from 112 of the 116 assigned genera of the Acalyphoideae.
