Journal ArticleDOI
Thiofractor thiocaminus gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel hydrogen-oxidizing, sulfur-reducing epsilonproteobacterium isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent chimney in the Nikko Seamount field of the northern Mariana Arc.
Hiroko Makita,Satoshi Nakagawa,Satoshi Nakagawa,Masayuki Miyazaki,Ko-ichi Nakamura,Fumio Inagaki,Ken Takai +6 more
TL;DR: On the basis of its physiological and molecular characteristics, strain 496ChimT represents the sole species of a new genus, Thiofractor, for which the name ThioFractor thiocaminus is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methanofervidicoccus abyssi gen. nov., sp. nov., a hydrogenotrophic methanogen, isolated from a hydrothermal vent chimney in the Mid-Cayman Spreading Center, the Caribbean Sea.
Sanae Sakai,Yoshihiro Takaki,Masayuki Miyazaki,Miyuki Ogawara,Katsunori Yanagawa,Junichi Miyazaki,Ken Takai +6 more
TL;DR: Although many of the morphological and physiological characteristics were quite similar between HHBT and the species of the genera Methanothermococcus and Methanotorris, they were distinguishable by the differences in susceptibility to antibiotics, formate utilization, growth temperature and NaCl ranges.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carotenoid Nostoxanthin Production by Sphingomonas sp. SG73 Isolated from Deep Sea Sediment.
Hiroshi Kikukawa,Takuma Okaya,Takashi Maoka,Masayuki Miyazaki,Keita Murofushi,Takanari Kato,Yoko Hirono-Hara,Masahiro Katsumata,Shoichi Miyahara,Kiyotaka Y. Hara +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, colored microorganisms were isolated from deep sea sediment that had been collected from Suruga Bay, Shizuoka, Japan, and one strain was found to be a pure yellow carotenoid producer, and the strain was identified as Sphingomonas sp.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular identification of the ichthyosporean protist "Pseudoperkinsus tapetis" from the mytilid mussel Adipicola pacifica associated with submerged whale carcasses in Japan.
Kiyotaka Takishita,Yoshihiro Fujiwara,Masaru Kawato,Natsuki Kakizoe,Natsuki Kakizoe,Masayuki Miyazaki,Tadashi Maruyama +6 more
TL;DR: Findings suggest that P. tapetis occurs worldwide and can associate with (and possibly infect) various types of bivalves.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biotic manganese oxidation coupled with methane oxidation using a continuous-flow bioreactor system under marine conditions
Shingo Kato,Masayuki Miyazaki,Sakiko Kikuchi,Teruhiko Kashiwabara,Yumi Saito,Eiji Tasumi,Katsuhiko Suzuki,Ken Takai,Linh Thi Thuy Cao,Akiyoshi Ohashi,Hiroyuki Imachi +10 more
TL;DR: The comparative experiments indicated that the methanotroph-based microbial community, rather than the nitrifier-based community, was effective for BioMnOx production under the marine environmental conditions.
