Physical activity levels of rural and urban seniors in the region of Warmia and Mazury in Poland

AbstractMountain biking is a sport that is physically demanding and at the same time beneficial for health; therefore, it can be implemented in university education by monitoring achievements. For this reason, the present study aims to analyze the university performance of the physical education course through the practice of mountain biking through the Samsung Health app. 12 university students between 16 and 25 years of age participated (Mage = 21.78, SD = 1.40) from Lima-Peru. The record of the sport performance was 7 sessions of training with a pace as a peloton. The results showed that there was an increase in average and maximum speed, altitude, and mileage. Then, the analysis of the coefficients of variation showed moderate homogeneity of the means of maximum and average speed, as well as altitude per day. Performance in the Practice of Mountain Biking Using the Samsung Health App: An Experience in Physical Education with University Students

Abstract This study aimed to compare the acute effects of performing two kinds of pull-ups: traditional, pronated grip pull-ups performed with two arms and additional weight with loading intensity of 5RM and one-arm pull-ups, on specific upper body climbing power. Twenty-four advanced climbers participated in the study. The International Rock Climbing Research Association (IRCRA) Power Slap Test was chosen to assess specific upper body climbing power. All athletes performed the test under three conditions: control (without a conditioning activity) and both kinds of pull-ups as conditioning activities. Results revealed significant improvements in the Power Slap's distance, power, velocity, and force in 5RM weighted pull-ups, but not in one-arm pull-ups. In the latter case, participants reached higher power values after the conditioning stimulus, but the effect size was small. Also, the differences with the remaining variables (power, speed, and force) were non-significant. The results suggest that weighted pull-ups with a 5RM intensity and not one arm pull-ups seem to be an effective PAPE stimulus. Therefore, the former can be used as a conditioning activity before an explosive climbing exercise such as the Power Slap on a campus board.

Acute Effects of Post‑Activation Performance Enhancement of 5RM Weighted Pull‑Ups and One Arm Pull‑Ups on Specific Upper Body Climbing Performance

Background: ‪The S Health application provides an estimate of the amount of physical activity by measuring the number of steps during activities. The purpose was to assess the accuracy of step-counting with different smartphones using the S Health step counting application at long and short walking distances, and stair climbing. Material and methods: ‪26 participants (aged 28.85 ± 4.85 years) conducted three tests: 20-step test, 60-step stair test, and 6-minute walk test. Three smartphone models of the latest generation and two models of an earlier one were assessed. The StepWatch pedometer was used as a criterion. Results: Only one phone of the latest generation produced the most consistent and accurate results as compared to the pedometer in the 60-step stair test and 6-minute walk test (r=0.840), while the correlation of the other four smartphones was weak, from r=0.257 to r=0.482. Generally, the accuracy increased with the increasing amount of steps in all devices and the mean absolute percentage error decreased. Errors ranged between 5.8 and 56.9% for the 20-step test, 1.9-22.4% for the 60-step stair test, and 1.1-17.8% for the 6-minute walk test. Conclusions: The results suggest that accuracy of smart-phones increase with increased number of steps and correspond to newer model.
