Ethical leadership: A social learning perspective for construct development and testing

The circular economy concept has gained momentum both among scholars and practitioners. However, critics claim that it means many different things to different people. This paper provides further evidence for these critics. The aim of this paper is to create transparency regarding the current understandings of the circular economy concept. For this purpose, we have gathered 114 circular economy definitions which were coded on 17 dimensions. Our findings indicate that the circular economy is most frequently depicted as a combination of reduce, reuse and recycle activities, whereas it is oftentimes not highlighted that CE necessitates a systemic shift. We further find that the definitions show few explicit linkages of the circular economy concept to sustainable development. The main aim of the circular economy is considered to be economic prosperity, followed by environmental quality; its impact on social equity and future generations is barely mentioned. Furthermore, neither business models nor consumers are frequently outlined as enablers of the circular economy. We critically discuss the various circular economy conceptualizations throughout this paper. Overall, we hope to contribute via this study towards the coherence of the circular economy concept; we presume that significantly varying circular economy definitions may eventually result in the collapse of the concept.

Our literature review focuses on the emerging construct of ethical leadership and compares this construct with related concepts that share a common concern for a moral dimension of leadership (e.g., spiritual, authentic, and transformational leadership). Drawing broadly from the intersection of the ethics and leadership literatures, we offer propositions about the antecedents and outcomes of ethical leadership. We also identify issues and questions to be addressed in the future and discuss their implications for research and practice. Our review indicates that ethical leadership remains largely unexplored, offering researchers opportunities for new discoveries and leaders opportunities to improve their effectiveness.

There can be no doubt that higher education has been international for a very long time. As 
early as the Middle Ages students were moving between various universities in different countries (see, e.g., Haskins, 1929; Mietke, 1985; Schwinges, 1988). And so were professors. In this way 
universities obtained cosmopolitan student bodies and faculties. As different scientiﬁ c disciplines 
developed and expanded, particularly during the latter part of the last century, the world of 
scholars became truly international. It could therefore be claimed that academic institutions have 
longer traditions of internationalization than corporations, which are the focus of theories of 
internationalization. At the same time, there are reasons to believe that the character of education 
has signiﬁ cant effects on the internationalization process, which makes it somewhat different 
from that of corporations. The main reason for these differences is that academic education to a 
high extent is locally embedded. Although we see a globalization of markets of various kinds, 
labor markets, with a few exceptions, have remained mainly national so far. This is due to cultural 
differences, personal ties, and, not the least, the national construction of reputation among academic institutions. Of course, this is being challenged in times of accreditation and ranking, 
which have been particularly important in the ﬁ eld of management education.

Le developpement et les structures des espaces du conseil en EuropeCet article s’efforce d’analyser les tendances recentes en matiere de structure et composition des marches du conseil en Europe : ont-ils ete peu a peu domines par des societes qui diffusent avant tout les concepts americains de management ? Il met certes l’accent sur les contextes et les acteurs plus que sur les contenus diffuses, mais il represente une premiere etape dans la comprehension des rapports entre la structure de l’industrie du conseil et les developpements des pratiques de gestion. La notion courante de la domination des grandes multinationales americaines du conseil et l’hypothese correlative d’une homogeneisation de ce secteur sont mises en question par les resultats de nos recherches. Bien sur, l’etude detaillee des principaux acteurs dans un grand nombre d’Etats europeens confirme l’idee d’une presence americaine significative et meme croissante, portee par la mondialisation et par les effets des strategies d’economies d’echelle et de synergie menees par ces firmes. Pourtant la branche est aussi caracterisee par de fortes influences dans le sens d’une divergence. En particulier, les grandes societes de conseil ont besoin de s’adapter aux systemes gestionnaires nationaux, les scissions en leur sein sont frequentes et le segment des petits consultants qui operent dans l’espace local et non mondial reste vivace. Dans l’attente de recherches futures, il serait donc premature de conclure a une homogeneisation ou les Europeens s’aligneraient sur les Americains.
