New high temperature infrared transmitting glasses

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that glass formed from silicon, arsenic and tellurium have good infrared transmission from 1 to 20 μ and have high softening points (∼500°C), and the index of refraction of the glasses determined from reflectivity measurements was found to vary from 2.4 to 3.5 depending upon composition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid, Nondestructive Evaluation of Macroscopic Defects in Crystalline Materials: The Laue Topography of (Hg,Cd)Te

TL;DR: In this paper, a simplified Laue topography technique was used for rapid characterization of various macroscopic crystal defects in bulk (Hg, Cd)Te crystals, and the utility of this method is demonstrated by a study of defect in bulk Hg and CdTe crystals.

Method of producing homogeneous ingots of a metallic alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for producing homogeneous ingots of an alloy in which one of the components thereof has a high vapor pressure includes the step of sealing the desired alloy components in a quartz ampoule sufficiently large to include a vapor space therein and heating the ampoules and its contents to at least a temperature at which the components will form a homogeneous liquid mixture.
