Journal ArticleDOI

New high temperature infrared transmitting glasses

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that glass formed from silicon, arsenic and tellurium have good infrared transmission from 1 to 20 μ and have high softening points (∼500°C), and the index of refraction of the glasses determined from reflectivity measurements was found to vary from 2.4 to 3.5 depending upon composition.
Journal ArticleDOI

The thermal change in the nondispersive infrared refractive index of optical materials.

TL;DR: Treatment of data and literature values for Si-As-Te glass, Ge-Sb-Sa glss, As(2)S(3) glass, and Kodak Irtran 4, used to establish an empirical relationship for predicting unknown DeltaN/DeltaT degrees C values of new optical materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Infrared transmitting materials

TL;DR: In this article, the beginning of transmission for a solid occurs at a wavel ength corresponding to the energy of its forbidden gap, and the longwavelength cut off for the solid is usually determined by a lattice or lattice type absorption of the constituent elements.
