Influence of Prenatal Lead Exposure on Genomic Methylation of Cord Blood DNA
J. Richard Pilsner,Howard Hu,Howard Hu,Adrienne S. Ettinger,Brisa N. Sánchez,Robert O. Wright,David E. Cantonwine,Alicia Lazarus,Héctor Lamadrid-Figueroa,Adriana Mercado-García,Martha María Téllez-Rojo,Mauricio Hernández-Avila +11 more
TL;DR: Prenatal lead exposure is inversely associated with genomic DNA methylation in cord blood, suggesting that the epigenome of the developing fetus can be influenced by maternal cumulative lead burden, which may influence long-term epigenetic programming and disease susceptibility throughout the life course.
Journal ArticleDOI
Decrease in Birth Weight in Relation to Maternal Bone-Lead Burden
Teresa González-Cossío,Karen E. Peterson,Luz Helena Sanin,Eugenia Fishbein,Eduardo Palazuelos,Antonio Aro,Mauricio Hernández-Avila,Howard Hu +7 more
TL;DR: Findings suggest that bone lead might be a better biomarker than blood lead for birth weight, because mobilization of bone lead during pregnancy may pose a significant fetal exposure with health consequences, long after maternal external lead exposure has declined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary and environmental determinants of blood and bone lead levels in lactating postpartum women living in Mexico City.
Mauricio Hernández-Avila,Teresita Gonzalez-Cossio,Eduardo Palazuelos,Isabelle Romieu,Antonio Aro,Eugenia Fishbein,Karen E. Peterson,Howard Hu +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that patella bone is a significant contributor to blood lead during lactation and that consumption of high calcium content foods may protect against the accumulation of lead in bone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prenatal Fluoride Exposure and Cognitive Outcomes in Children at 4 and 6–12 Years of Age in Mexico
Morteza Bashash,Deena Thomas,Howard Hu,E. Angeles Martinez-Mier,Brisa N. Sánchez,Niladri Basu,Karen E. Peterson,Karen E. Peterson,Adrienne S. Ettinger,Robert O. Wright,Zhenzhen Zhang,Yun Liu,Lourdes Schnaas,Adriana Mercado-García,Martha María Téllez-Rojo,Mauricio Hernández-Avila +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, some evidence suggests that fluoride may be neurotoxic to children, but none of the epidemiologic studies have been longitudinal, had individual measures of fluoride exposure, addressed the...
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of maternal lead burden on infant weight and weight gain at one month of age among breastfed infants.
Luz Helena Sanin,Teresa González-Cossío,Isabelle Romieu,Karen E. Peterson,Silvia Ruiz,Eduardo Palazuelos,Mauricio Hernández-Avila,Howard Hu +7 more
TL;DR: Maternal lead burden is negatively associated to infant attained weight at 1 month of age and to postnatal weight gain from birth to 1 month- age, and additional studies are needed to better understand this source of exposure and to develop interventions to minimize its impact.
