TL;DR: In this paper, a pinch diagram based algorithm for the prediction of area requirements in heat exchanger networks (HEN) is presented. But this algorithm is not suitable for a large number of streams with significant differences in their heat transfer coefficient values.

An Efficient Method for the Design of Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple, rapid, and robust algorithm for the design of segmentally baffled shell and tube heat exchangers is presented, which ensures full use of the maximum allowable pressure drops given typically as design specifications, with no geometric restrictions on the equipment.
